It’s incredible to me that anybody with eyes would say playcalling (no matter who was calling plays) was the problem last year.

Tyreek Hill is the only player I’ve seen get open more than Xavier Worthy. Dude was always ****ing wide open and the either OL was ass and ruined the play or the QB was ass throwing it downfield missing him.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">On my life 2019 Mahomes hits this throw to Worthy <a href="https://t.co/evPp43sHhz">pic.twitter.com/evPp43sHhz</a></p>&mdash; 𝘙𝘑 (@RJLockedIn) <a href="https://twitter.com/RJLockedIn/status/1840534723631743357?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 29, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Pat was ASS this season. I love the guy, wouldn't trade him for anyone else, but he literally played the worst season of his career and then that showed up in the SB.

2019 Pat has X go for 1300 yards as a rookie because the dude was wide open all year and Pat either didn't look at him or just missed. Ass. Pure ass

I've never seen him constantly stare at the pass rush like he did this year and bail out when he THOUGHT the rush was about to get him when it really wasn't. He was all the way in his head over it this season.

Yeah that was even more evident in the SB when Warner and Daniels did the breakdowns, and Pat wasn't even looking downfield. He was just staring at the front four and then seeing ghosts.

This makes me wonder if it will bleed into next season or if he will have his head on straight for 2025.

Coochie liquor 03-18-2025 08:03 PM

Pat was just different this season. No idea what happened to make him turn into the ability to check the ball down, instead of going for the home run like we’re so used to. If he’s worried about interceptions, or just not trusting himself for some reason, that’s concerning. Was he playing through an undisclosed injury? It’s not 100% the LT situation, because he bailed on plenty of clean pockets.

I have a feeling he will go back through the tapes this offseason, and see it clearly as well (I’m sure he already knows) how poorly he played, and all the missed opportunities. Hope he can get back to taking the chances, and being the badass he was at the beginning of his career here. If he can get back to using his killer instincts, and attacking the opposing defenses, and a little less Alex Smith mixed with bad day Bret Favre.

Was good to see him and Worthy finally start to get on the same page at seasons end and the playoffs. But even with that trust and familiarity they developed. He still wouldn’t pull the trigger on that early shot to Worthy when he had beaten his coverage, and chose to check down instead. A younger Mahomes would have not even seen the check down option because he would have seen Worthy streaking past defenders and let her rip.

LT getting him hit repeatedly was a major reason. The Broncos overthrow is clear evidence. He looks right at the LT when the ball is snapped. His footwork is a mess bc he doesn’t think he has any time to throw it

And this is why I’ve been firm on Kingsley’s days as a LT are over….

You can suck on your own and overcome, but once the coaches saw it was impacting Mahomes mentally, it was overwith.

I was worried that the 2021 Bengals game would affect him in the 2022 season and he turned around and had one of the best seasons of any player ever. Hoping for a repeat of that bounce back.

Writing him off after a few games into his rookie season, doesn’t make sense. He was very raw coming out, and despite us all blowing smoke up each others asses over how Veach was a genius, and how Kingsley was gonna step in immediately and become Willie Roaf. He still has plenty of time to get his shit figured out and become who we expected him to be immediately. I’d love to see him at G and see how he performs there. But we still have 3 full seasons left on his rookie contract.

My only concern, is Andy ****ing Heck is still on the payroll, and he’s not good at developing the players the team drafts for him.

He did, and I think if the line is shored up a bit he'll improve again but this whole season WAS BAD.

And sorry it can't just be "the left tackle play..."

In the SB Warner and Daniels pointed out that there were plenty of times that Pat had a clean pocket and just abandoned it. Or just threw piss poor balls.

It was just like that all year.

comochiefsfan 03-18-2025 09:21 PM

Pat came into the league looking like he had all the answers to the test.

I’ve never seen a player make everything look so easy. He had such an extreme level of confidence and everything looked so damn smooth.

He never dropped his eyes and he just had this uncanny way of feeling the pass rush and navigating the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield the whole time.

Somehow he’s lost that. He drops his eyes, he looks sped up, scared at times even. That effortlessness and natural moxie has been missing for awhile.

Can he get it back? Of course. But I sure hope he’s attacking this offseason like he never has before. It’s not going to come back without a renewed work ethic and focus.

No he hasn't. He had GOBS of time in 2018 and 2019 and through most of 2020.

The Chiefs had ELITE tackle play and ELITE receiver play for those three seasons.

Mahomes still won MVP without both in 2022. He hasn't lost shit.

He has had hot garbage to work with at tackle, declining Kelce, limited WR's with sub-par playcalling and has dragged the last two Chiefs teams to the SB.

No other QB is going to the SB throwing to Sky, Kadarius, MVS and rookie Rashee who didn't get more reps till late in that season.

I don't know if this is Q, and as always, IDGAF.

This is some good stuff, but I will always kinda take whatever Smith says with a grain of salt, because he actually liked Skyy Moore and thought he would be good.

Anyone blaming playcalling didn’t watch this football team

The people blaming play calling usually are the ones that have no clue what they're talking about. 95%+ of fans couldn't even break down a call or explain why it was bad vs good. They just see that a team isn't performing and so they bitch about the thing that would be the quickest fix, play calling.

How you gonna hate on this dude for liking a draft pick? Brett and Andy really thought he'd be good, so do you not trust them?

The absolute best scouts get things like this wrong all the time.

It's a bit shocking to see on an actual Chiefs forum. Left Tackle is the 2nd most important player on the offense and it's not even close.

The Left Tackle protects Mahomes. And Mahomes is by far our most important player. Mahomes cant do Mahomes things on a regular basis if his blind side is compromised.

Football is a team game. It's a chess board. And when you're King gets toppled due to poor protection the whole offense comes crashing down.

Cut the head off the snake (Mahomes) and it doesn't matter who the hell he's throwing to.
