Are you trying to say that a simple friend request on Facebook is the same as a bunch of screaming protesters?

That's one hell of an intrusive function for Facebook to have installed. I have to assume that Facebook has a way to make friend requests much less problematic than that.

So Facebook is now a way to get into the inner circle? The random readers that my mother allows to befriend her on Facebook because they are interested in her books are now members of my mother's inner circle and privy to her deepest thoughts, just by virtue of a friend request? The person befriended is now required to share all her secrets?

I'm going to have to let my mother know this. She'll want to get rid of that account immediately.
