@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Dodgers trying to trade IF/OF Alex Guerrero. Talking to numerous teams. Fits best with an AL club.
Supposedly there are rumors the Royals might be interested... |

Without Rios, that 8th in Houston, Game 4, doesn't get rolling...

Would love to have Enrique Hernandez from the Dodgers.

I have noticed throughout the off season and during the football season you could always find Royals posts in here.
Now the best fans in baseball have finally started the redbirds thread. Not to start a war but the best fans in baseball are really quiet. |

I will miss Hootie I used to go over to the Cards threat just to read him pestering them. Also in gameday and this tread he was fun overbearing but fun. Dude was right on a lot of stuff but just couldn't own up when he was wrong.

Then we'd be able to trade for Upton. :D |

I didn't realize he had played that much infield. Only saw him in reserve OF/defensive specialist action this season. Statement retracted. |
Pitcher and Catchers report Thursday.
Sal has been down here since the beginning of January, minus a week's vacation in Disney World I think. I am heading up to practice to see who's here on Saturday morning. Still trying to get Sal to sign a bat for me but he's hard to get close to these days up there. |
I'm ready for some Royals baseball !
|
Hell yeah! We're getting close, boys. it's baseball time.

Believe the story was that he was in charge of a daily fantasy football scheme, but went full Hoortie on his co-investors, doing only what he wanted, setting lineups without input, changing lineups, etc. It was a bad deal. Things went poorly. I think he blew through about 1/2 their stack in a few weeks. But that's kind of the daily fantasy game... The "pros" have so much more advanced resources/systems available to them, all the average Joes can hope to do is get lucky and win sometimes and win big enough to make up for it. It's one of the reasons I'll never do daily fantasy. It's the debbil. |

All I can tell you is that it was more of how he responded to being confronted on the above actions, more so than even the above actions. |

Like it was Hootie no body of sound mind would get in a gambling scheme with him and let him take the lead. Would they? These folks need to come forward in a separate thread so we can scold them further. A good shaming could do some good. |
The Royals are going to extend the netting to the end of the dugouts.

That's the world we live in alnorth, I'm guessing most ball parks will be doing similar netting.

Yeah, I wasn't privy to the story, just heard it second-hand. I still talk to Rick a bit on Twitter. I know he wasn't doing anything other than what he thought was best. Think things just got heated because people disagreed with money on the line.
Daily fantasy is a gigantic scam, guys. Don't do it. Putting money into daily fantasy is like sitting down to play Texas Hold Em with pros (and in many cases, you're going against the same guys). |

Hootie has solid takes on the Royals and I do miss him in baseball topics. He tends to hold his analysis as gospel but that's not exactly uncommon on sports message boards. |
Hootie was an idiot.

I had no problem squandering a C-note on that. It was fun and we were never going to win any money anyway. Hootie or not.
Heck, the Hootie deal was worth it alone. |

Given the news stories about how rigged Daily Fantasy Sports really are, did Hootie even really "lose" everyone's money, or did a group of CP members agree to piss away that cash on something they had virtually no chance of turning a profit- let alone break even?
|
I mean... Do you guys realize how far $100 goes at Glitter Gultch on Fremont St in Vegas?
|
DFS is like any form of gambling. The odds are against you but if you enjoy games of chance with your money, it's fun to try. BTW, I finished in 1st in a DFS baseball tourney last year so a blind squirrel can find a nut once in awhile with those things. It wasn't one of the huge ones but it at least covered my "Hootie throw away money".

I was one of the members of the group you referred to. We all threw in $100 to bet on FanDuel in their million dollar contest. Hootie had a good idea with a strategy that actually sounded sort of interesting, so we decided to give it a try. There was a total of 50 of us in the group (including Hootie), so the total betting pool was $5000. The idea was to have a few fantasy football gurus take the pot and make hundreds of lineups, with the hope that one of the lineups would hit it big. We were basically going to imitate the strategies that the pros use to win at DFS. We all knew there was a high probabiity that we would wind up losing all of the money. Eventually we did. Losing the money wasn't the issue. Hootie got banned because:
The fact is that Hootie has been banned from this site many times before. He always comes crawling back with a promise that he'll behave better this time. It was inevitable that he would be banned again. If he hadn't been banned for this, he would have found some other way to get himself banned. That's what Hootie does. I will say that I completely agree with your comment about DFS. It is a scam. One week the winner of the million dollar pool had just joined the site a couple of days prior to the pool, and had made a total of 5 entries. One of the entries came in first place, and the other came in third. I found it very hard to believe that the game was honest when I saw that. To me, the $100 was an interesting experiment, a cheap way to learn a lot about DFS, and a lesson about what a scam it truly is. I had opened up an account on DraftKings and was thinking about giving it a try. After I saw how the game truly works, I cancelled my account without ever placing a bet. |
Yep. Good recap Lex. I had forgotten about some of that. Also a good point on DFS. I failed to mention that since our experiment, I have not spent a dime on DFS either. I have won a little but I don't think regular Joes can win the big pots.
