Training wheels?

You make it seem like the guy doesn't play.

If Remmers injury is serious, then we really need to consider bringing in additional tackle depth. Maybe someone like Rick Wagner? I think Okung is still out there too?

Niang and Long will be options. Schwartz could be an emergency add later when healthy.

We're kidding ourselves if we don't think the Chiefs also consider Wylie an "option".

My point is that they clearly babied him most of last year coming off his injury. At this point he’s over a year and a half removed from the injury, he needs to be let loose with zero limitations. By this point in his career he should just about be rounding into form as the type of player he’ll become, one way or another.

I’m not counting on Long ever playing for the Chiefs. His injury history is pretty bad.

Maybe Schwartz is an option at some point. Hard to bank on that.

Obviously Niang is starting right now. Remmers’ injury worries me. I really don’t want to see Wylie playing any meaningful snaps at tackle.

I just think it might be smart to snag someone else for depth. Or maybe Remmers injury just isn’t serious.

And that’s what really scares me. One injury and he’s starting right now, since Remmers and Long are already hurt.

They had him play through injury his rookie season and he blew an ACL, for Thronhill it's a trust issue with his body and coaching staff

I'm with you about Long. He's not going to be ready by the start of the season, so maybe it's time to let go. I'm not sure Schwartz is an option, either. And I never want to see Wylie at T again. I'm not even sure I want to see him ever suit up again.

So where does that leave us? We have Prince Whatever and Miller, but I thought we had another guy. Durant maybe?

If the Remmers injury is serious at all, I think we sign Rick Wagner for depth. He’s started like 100 games in his career. Started 9 games last year for the Packers too and I think he was healthy for all 16.

Thornhill running with the 3's today.

Is he a surprise cut?

smithandrew051 08-16-2021 09:23 AM

Just watched the replays of several of the plays from the 1’s.

It’s fun to watch each play and focus on each OL. It used to be depressing to do that.

You can definitely see the OL getting real push. It’s very encouraging.

Granted, they aren’t playing against stars. But it’s still obvious the talent is there.

Man, if Hughes & Baker both work out well, we will have a great rotation of CB's. 4 deep, fresh legs all game long and depth if someone goes down so we don't have to trade the farm or pick up an elderly FA midseason.

4? More like 5.

Ward, Sneed, Fenton, Baker, Hughes

If Keyes is your 6th and a ST ace, then damn. That’s a solid room.

I was actually going to post something similar. Its probably less about Thornhill dropping and more to do with getting looks at other players. Somebody has to drop to get a look at another guy.

Thornhill isn't going anywhere, nor should he.

I mean, I don't want this joke to imply that I'm worried about Thornhill, rather that Andy says things like this all the time without actually saying anything.

For instance, Mahomes is going to play the first quarter. Eric Berry is day to day. No problem with Le'Veon Bell.

If both work out...in conjunction with Sneed being the top-rated rookie CB for a 4th round pick...it might Veech's most impressive accomplishment so far.

2 former 1st round CBs for essentially nothing...

Chiefs will have spent almost nothing for their entire starting CB room...while the Donks use the 9th overall pick, passing on a potential franchise QB, to get just one.

Kiimo 08-16-2021 12:48 PM

See this is why Petro's narrative about not trading draft picks fails. Veach routinely picks guys up that should be first or second round picks.

I mean Wharton based on his play should at least be a second rounder. Trey Smith a first. Sneed a first.

Who cares if Veach trades a late round pick to move up and select Gray? Petro thinks it needs to be a numbers game throwing the most picks at players because Petro can't actually evaluate talent like Veach can.

He's a wizard.

He sure is.

Trade late 1st round picks for established players that you keep for long periods of time (as core players). Get picks in late rounds/UDFA that play "Up" significantly in your system.

Profit.

It's a great/maximized way to use both resources, IMO.

Disagree. I'd say he's second best after SSJ. (But only when he is NOT doing "Stump the Chumps", which is boring and bad.)

His whole show is bad. Has been for a long time. SSJ is even worse. Even Clinkscale was a better listen.

There’s only one serious and respectable voice in Kansas City Sports Radio. Only one man is such an artist with his words and provides such thought-provoking commentary that our respect is not only deserved but required. Bob Fescoe.

Thornhill has had some weird tweets this afternoon. Probably nothin but they came right after Reid did his presser?

Gotta be because Fescoe is awful and stupid. He went on boycott the Chiefs rants when we traded Peters and Smith.

It’s either a joke or I’m Fescoe’s CP burner account

I'm afraid to even ask who you think is "good".

I'm planning on making it about eating ass tomorrow

JPH83 08-16-2021 02:46 PM

Obviously take this with a large pinch of salt, or dose of "this is bullshit", but PFF rookie grades were:

Chiefs Rookies
Player PFF grade Off/Def Snaps
S Zayne Anderson 69.0 15
LB Nick Bolton 63.8 20
CB Dicaprio Bootle 60.5 22
QB Shane Buechele 54.7 24
WR Cornell Powell 54.3 22
Edge Joshua Kaindoh 51.6 49
CB Marlon Character 51.2 15
TE Noah Gray 41.3 33
S Devon Key 37.4 28
LB Riley Cole 29.1 38

Of the non-rookies there's an SI article I can't link to that reckoned Wharton and Saunders had high grades, with Baker also doing well. Have to say I did think Wharton looked pretty good.

lol "pretty good"?

Quote:

The first player on this list has to be second-year interior defender Tershawn Wharton, who looked like the best player on the field at times. Wharton was creating consistent pressure, recording four pressures and a sack over 15 pass rushes according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) in addition to a 94.0 PFF grade, which was the highest grade of the game and the highest grade for any defensive lineman in the NFL in the preseason so far. If Wharton can keep this up at all in the final two games of the preseason, he should get a strong consideration to start on the defensive line along with Chris Jones, Frank Clark and either Derrick Nnadi or Jarran Reed.
better than pretty good.

They left out o-line?

ThyKingdomCome15 08-16-2021 03:02 PM

Gotta second that. Wharton was a dominant force. It was a very impressive outing for him. He'll be in the rotation when the season starts.

Kiimo 08-16-2021 03:08 PM

I can't believe that Wharton was an UDFA. Like, just astounding.

I can't believe Trey Smith was a sixth round draft pick.

I can't believe Sneed was a fourth rounder.

I can't believe the Chiefs got Harrison Butker from another team's scrap heap, along with two first round corners that other teams had given up on erroneously.

How are NFL teams so bad at this

You're right, he was excellent. I actually thought I'd get less grief by being understated. Lesson learned

Think they had some dumb min. snap limit and Smith and Creed only got 11 snaps or something. They probably have some rating somewhere but I'm not paying to see it!

Ah, that explains it. Seems like that would really limit visibility to the rookies who are penciled in as starters. Hopefully they can do some kind of cumulative score once more snaps are gotten.

This is no place for that. I already declared Trey Smith a HOF player after watching practice.

You gotta go for it and call someone an AIDS fire if they disagree with you

I believe 'die in a flaming AIDS tree fire' is the appropriate colloquialism here.
