Is it possible the Bengals slow down in a major way like they did recently against Patriots & Ravens? Yeah, it's possible. But it's also possible they keep their foot on the gas against an injured, struggling Buffalo defense and put 40-50 points on them.
Smart move by McDermott to avoid the possibility of a loss to the Bengals. It allowed Buffalo to at least keep home field advantage on the Bengals. They also dodged the road game with KC.

On the flipside, it kept them from getting both barrels from Cincy and being able to adjust.
If we didn't play TB in the 2020 regular season, we beat them in the SB. But they took such a hard shot from Tyreek in that first half, they were determined not to let it happen again. They spent the entire 2nd half addressing it and had their plan in place for the SB.
The Bills skipped out and in so doing saved some level of HFA (at least not having to go back to Cincy). But they didn't learn a single thing about how to deal with what was happening to them.
