You are leasing the hardware and bandwidth. The software is typically the responsibility of the client. (This is pretty typical for all but your most basic web sites.)

That's quite a bit.

I think that the current server costs somewhere around $3000 for a year. I could be way off.

By all means though if you think $50 is a good number then donate that. I'm going to donate $20 probably.

Okay, so the bandwidth is sufficient but the hardware sucks?

Oh, and in my opinion, what we REALLY need is for someone who is an expert at optimizing MySQL to take a good luck at it. I've mentioned it numerous times, but if anyone sees this and fits the bill (or knows someone who does), have them shoot me a PM.

MySQL makes people's hair fall out :(

Huh. I thought you worked in the oil industry. My mistake.

Hardware may indeed be the answer, but I don't know enough to know for sure. My gut feeling is that the issue has to do with the configuration of our database software. Web applications are significantly more complicated than your typical home computer application when it comes to how you set it up and how to make it run optimally (at least on the scale we're using it).

I hate software.

Donation sent. Thanks to whomever pointed that out to me.

Since people seem to think that I defend oil companies, they also incorrectly presume that I work in the industry. I used to in an ancillary way.

To be fair, he specifically asked to have his rep reset. :)

I actually asked DaFace to neuter me. I wanted to see what it was like.
