“Mike Wood is going to pitch a lot more as a setup guy,” Schaefer said. “He can come in in the seventh and get us out of that inning. He can pitch the seventh and eighth; maybe the ninth sometimes.

“He can get ground balls. He fields his position well. He can hold runners on. He's more valuable in that role to us than as a starter. I talked to him about that. He's accepted that.”

Schaefer envisions a two-tier bullpen where Wood, Andrew Sisco and Ambiorix Burgos pitch to protect leads, while Jaime Cerda, Mike MacDougal, Kyle Snyder and Leo Nuñez work when the Royals trail.

Yes, but what does it matter of you have no idea what you are doing?? I think Baird is in WAY over his head. This team blows from the top down. From Mr. Wal mart to Baird, to Pena, to the scouts, to the minors.......its awful. Been saying it for years....

Yeah, if nothing else we'd have a pretty solid defense up the middle I think. If Murphy can come up and hit I wouldn't mind making Gotay a utility-type guy that can play all around the field.
