Long story short:

Saw a news story on MSN.
Hit the "blog this" button.
Created the site.

It won't be for long -- I'll be moving to a dedicated site in early January.

And trust me ... I'll sharing the e-mail I send to M$ about their service. It may get me sued for defamation, but I'm willing to take that risk.

Good luck with this effort. But your plan has a giant flaw in it. There is no central theme to attract people to your site. "Let's all hang out together" doesn't cut it, in terms of giving people a reason to spend their time visiting a site that has no posts.

If you are going to try to launch a website/discussion board, the key is to find a thematic niche. ChiefsPlanet's theme is obviously the Chiefs, but even that wasn't enough to sustain PigSkinPark (a former "competitor" to ChiefsPlanet).

The key is to find a topic that interests people, and find one that has a void in the internet message board world. ChiefsPlanet was successful because it brought a few dozen disgrunted Chiefs fan/posters from the KCStar board here enmasse. They created an actual community over-night. Theme=Chiefs, void=disgrunted.

"ChillPlace.net" might be a "cool" domain, but it needs more than a "sit back, relax and chill" theme. Unless you are talking about refriderator repair there it's not enough of a theme. People do that at message boards all over the net already (see ChiefsPlanet). You need to find a reason for them to switch.

What you are trying to do is quite difficult.

I wish you the best of luck, and hope I've shared something that will help you down the road.
