I thought it was by far the worst. I'd go ESB, ANH, RotJ, AotC, RotS and then TPM.

The only thing in RotJ I didn't like were the childishness of the ewoks when they were introduced, but I thought the way the final act was constructed was a thing of beauty. The last 20 minutes or so of that film are epic.

I agree, the last 20 minutes were epic. It's just that to me, the entire movie should have been epic. It was the last of the series and it came across as lame (especially the original ending with the goofy Muppet-Show music at the end, as well as the original Jabba music scene). I just thought that the story could have moved along much further without seeing the Droid nonsense and Luke fighting the Rancor (which looked terrible).

I was expecting Godfather II and I got Johnny Dangerously.

Did anyone else see the new trailer for the Star Wars animated film yet? It looks pretty cool

Yeah, I do.

Thematically, it was identical to "A New Hope" (Star Wars). There was nothing new or fresh about the locales, no new information was revealed, the Muppet-like Ewoks were a lame addition (it really did feel like the Muppet Show, especially during the battle scene) and with the exception of the battle between Luke & Vader on the Death Star, there was just nothing really worth watching. Lucas has even stated that if he were to do it all over, he'd have written a different script and had directed it himself (for better or worse).

I didn't care for AOTC. It had its moments (Any scene with Kenobi & Jango Fett) but I hated the yellowish-brown haze of Geonosis, the lightsaber battles looked fake and contrived, Sam Jackson was a HORRIBLE casting choice and there wasn't enough Christopher Lee or political intrigue (which is what I admired about TPM).

I also thought Ben Burtt absolutely butchered the score in the edit bay (and John Williams was pissed about that, from what I heard at the time) and the "romance" between Anakin & Padme was forced and fake at best. I also wish they would have cast ANYONE other than Hayden (Or Ryan Phillipe) as Anakin.

As for the Phantom Menace, I thought it was awesome. Absolutely awesome. It showed the Jedi, just before their decline. Liam Neeson was everything that I imagined as a Jedi (wise but powerful), Darth Maul was an insanely talented evil assassin and Senator Palpatine was at his devilish best. I loved the fact that the movie moved slowly (unlike the ridiculous pacing of AOTC) and I enjoyed the back story, especially the Pod Racing sequence.

I thought it looked beautiful (especially Naboo. Exteriors shot in Italy and the rest CGI) and I absolutely believe that it was John Williams best score ever. It's a masterpiece (and I've had many a conductor agree with that assessment).

I have to admit. I loved PM at first. Then I really started to hate it because of George's directing. As I watch it again, though, it is better than Eps two and three.

Empire was by far the best but I did enjoy Return minus the ewoks.

I really do wish George had stuck to writing and left his hands off the directing though.

Yeah, looks decent and interesting but I will wait for the DVD. That should not even be in theaters in my opinion.

As a kid, (I was about 8 or 9 when Empire came out) I was insanely jealous of Han for getting to swap spit with Leah...therefore I hated that movie at the time...

...in retrospect, it was the best of the series, but IMO followed closely by Sith. It moved along really fast, but it kind of had to. Hayden LOOKED great for the part of youthful Anakin, but his acting blows goats.

My order of best to worst would be Empire, Sith, Hope, Clones, and it's a toss up between Jedi and Phantom.

Hayden's acting is a direct result of George's directing.

Then how do you explain him in other movies?

Personally, I think he's a horrific actor.

Anecdote: I was working out at my gym in 2002, just before the release of AOTC. And while I was on the exercise bike, Hayden comes in and chooses the bike the right next me. We had a brief conversation (nothing important).

I talked to a director friend of mine later that night and told him that I ran into Hayden at the gym. His response:

"Was he unconvincing as himself?"

I would have to agree. Hes a stiff. Bad casting choice on Lucas's part.

Thats why i couldnt figure out the success that his "Jumper" flic had, all i read talked about how atrocious he was.

He makes Keanu look like an overactor.

Hes the Al Gore of actors.
