I'd take Johnson in that spot, no doubt.

Calvin Johnson is much faster....

Crabtree's best upside is Fitzgerald who didn't have great timed speed either but he also didn't play in a gimmick offense.

I love how in October, some of you guys just KNOW that we'll have to be picking 1st to get Stafford.

How quickly we've forgotten this time last year, when it was a supposed lock that Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson would be the first two QB's taken in the draft.

How interesting that one of those players was picked in the late 2nd round, and is currently the 3rd QB behind a guy that was picked in the 7th round of the same draft - and one of those players was lucky to be drafted at all, slipping to the 6th round, and is currently on a PRACTICE SQUAD, available to anyone willing to give him a roster spot.

Point out to me something Stafford does that will drop him.....he doesn't have Woodson's throwing motion or release...or injury issues or a light arm.

Stafford is everything that makes guys rise in the scouting room not fall.

Cool. I'd take a Fitz...

What did Woodson and Brohm do to get dropped?

How are you a lead-pipe lock to be a high R1 pick in October, then almost fall to the 3rd round in April?

Better yet, how do you not beat out Matt ****ing Flynn for the backup job?

I wish we had another first rounder this year. We have a lot of holes.

Exactly why you DON'T reach for a player based on need.

TrickyNicky 10-06-2008 08:15 PM

If we're top 3 and we don't take Stafford if he's there, we riot.

As nice as that would be there will come a point where we have to visit free agency to get a player or two that can fill the gaps. IMO 2009 will be that time. Because of the nature of the league with injuries and free agency there is no way you can count on building a team with no free agents. Players that have been drafted will not work out, become lost forever to injury or be lost as free agents. It doesn't appear that way right now but have a nucleus of young players which we've drafted the last three years. We need to hit on next years draft in the first couple of rounds and then we need to fill out the roster with some worth while free agents. Pinning our hopes to rookies every year just won't cut it. Just ask Detroit and AZ about it.

I agree. We have the cap to make a run at some of the bigger free agents. One thing we can't do is offer our top 3 picks in trades. We need all the help we can get at this point.

Woodson's throwing motion killed him, people think/thought he'd throw tons of INT's because of how slow the ball came out.

Brohm's issues are he tends to get injured and his arm isn't that great....

Stafford is a better prospect than any of the guys last year and that includes Ryan who I would have drafted without a problem.

The biggest of which is QB, without a QB you become the Vikings.
