This is the Chiefs we're talking about. They'll do something brilliant like promote Curtis Modkins.

No, it is not.

It's one thing to hire a guy like Sean Payton, who'd been a QB coach and an offensive coordinator for two teams (the Giants & the Cowboys) and has had success at both stops.

Garrett hasn't proven anything, other than his offensive juggernaut can collapse at any given moment.

And McDaniels has a LONG way to go and much to show before being a HC candidate.

I'd love to get Garrett, but I don't think he would take the Chiefs HC job over his current position.

Didn't the Cowboys sign him to a long term contract last year and promise him the HC gig when they can Phillips. Which will probably be shortly. :D

I was agreeing with your point. Maybe I mis-worded it.

Cassell just isn't a NFL-quality QB. He has all the tools, but he doesn't have it all put together as a package.

Can't blame McDaniels for it. That said, he's like 35 years old and likely not yet seasoned enough to be a HC.

Doesn't he bear some responsibility to help coach Cassell into his tools?

If that's the case, there is no way Garrett sticks around after he basically stayed to get the HC job eventually (hello Al Saunders).

He might be available to be had.

This team needs an offensive minded HC, and then a strong D coordinator.

I do not want McDaniels. Without Brady, the guy calls awful games.
Lane Kiffin is going back to college.
And the other 3 don't thrill me either.

Suggestions?

How about Dan Reeves? Slightly said in jest, but he can build an offense and develop a QB. I'm not sure his hard ass mentality would be welcomed by today's players though.

If the Rams don't keep him I like Jim Hasslet. I know I'm going to get bashed on this one, but he's defensive minded and knows the importance of offense. He's currently 2-0 as the Rams HC.

If the Rams continue to play well I don't think he'll be an option.
They'll give him the job.

How many QBs has Reeves developed? Elway was a freak coming out of college... Reeves managed not to ruin him; I don't give him credit for "developing" him.

Can we make a sticky of all coaches who are likely to get axed this year? Especially HC's that could be taken off the throne and put back onto the coordinator stool?

Examples:

Marvin Lewis as a DC. Does he still have it in him?

Wade Phillips as DC. Runs a 3-4, probably not for us with current players, but that is up to a new GM/HC to decide.

Norv Turner as OC. Could help mentor and prepare a rookie QB for the NFL.

Rod Marinelli as DC or D-line coach. Steer clear of him though; comes from the Dungy Bucs line....we know what fruits fall off that tree.

I have to run, but I am curious to see how big the list is and how useless most of them might be. Also, other than the bengels and lions, what teams are going to clean house like we should? Rams?
