So if Clark really wants to keep stability in the organization, he either has to give Herm an extension, a commitment for the long term, or go out and get that new coach who they will be patient with. Letting Herm coach one year while speculating all year as to who replaces him or if he's doing enough to come back would be totally in contradiction to the whole stability thing they keep harping on.

Keep in mind that Pioli also threw out something there in the interview about the draft, while it is the main way to build and sustain your team, is not the only avenue the NFL provides, and that all avenues need to be looked at to bring in talent, wherever it is. You can't restrict yourself to the draft. This to me signals his intention to target certain free agents for this team or trade for certain players, and remember Herm wasn't exactly for that last year, he just wanted to stockpile as many draft picks and free agent non-draftees he could and build the team that way, and not sign many free agents. There's a lot of things I've heard Herm talking about that don't seem to mesh with the way Pioli wants to do things...

I'm glad you posted all of this. this is the part of the interview that I noticed that told me that Herm is gone.

Well that's the question. Whether or not.

Hey C-Mac - any issue with my adding your site to the drop-down menu up top?

Oh, and any progress on a new header? Colquitt's a bit depressing now that the future is looking brighter! :D

If he keeps Herm, I STILL will give him as much rope as he needs.

Some of you are just way too obsessed with what happens with this team FOR NEXT YEAR.

If Herm is here, it tells me that Pioli couldn't get the other targets he wanted, and ended up saving the team 4 million instead of locking in a lesser candidate.

If you are ready to run him out of here because he keeps Herm for one year then I don't know what to tell you.

Obviously I've made it clear that I believe it's long past due for Herm to go away.

But for me, this isn't about next year's wins and losses at all. Keeping Herm might hamper our philosophy in the draft and will definitely curtail the development of players.

For example, I can't imagine drafting a QB at #3 overall with Herm still at the helm. Perhaps I'm wrong..

I agree it's long past due.

I'm just saying my opinion of Pioli won't be affected negatively at all if Herm is the coach next year.

I hate Herm just as much as anyone, and want him gone, but it doesn't make much sense either to can Herm to hire someone who was like his 5th or 6th choice to take over this team.

I think what is taking so long is that he's trying to convince Ferentz.

That's very tough.

Yeah, it would be ridiculous for Pioli to hire someone whom he doesn't believe in, yet it would be equally ridiculous to hold on to someone who is limiting (or at the very least not contributing to) the development of young players. See our defensive line.

My biggest concern would be at the QB position. With such an important draft position, would Herm jeopardize/influence this coming decision?

Just judging by history this stuff takes time. Peterson was hired on Dec. 19 and didnt can Ganz until Jan. 5. I know its not the best example but it is one.

anyone have a pic of Trent Green and the team doing this? I believe it was the NFL network Thanksgiving game. They did it to Honor Lamar who was in the hospital at the time.

I don't see him getting a say in the matter. In fact, if we 'lame duck' him, I see the Coords being the shot-callers at game time, and Herm's role being reduced to Guidance Counselor / Figurehead for the players/young guys on the team.
