Chiefs ban Larry Johnson from team activities

The Chiefs have ordered Larry Johnson to refrain from team activities until their investigation of his Twitter conduct is concluded.
The Chiefs will hold a news conference Tuesday afternoon to address the comments made by Johnson on Twitter Sunday night. LJ has released a statement through his agent, apologizing to Todd Haley, the Chiefs, and the NFL. It rings hollow, however, when he says his intent was not to offend anyone even though he used a gay slur and belittled his head coach. He's essentially been suspended even if the Chiefs aren't using that word. Oct. 27 - 1:18 pm et

Finally, some optimism on this site.

It's a process. What were people expecting?!? We start out poorly, just like most anticipated, and then they complain?!?

as of the most vocal anti-lj people I will say this apology is just bullshit.

However if GC can change his mind, so can I. I say we don't cut him. Keep him on and punish him. Make him work. Turn him into a second string back that gets pounded by DL guys and have him absorb the punishment instead of Charles and Smith. Lets face it, this team isn't winning many more games this season so why do LJ a favor by just cutting him. Have him suffer like everyone else.

Because it sets a bad precedent, especially when they have repeatedly stated that they are looking for the "right 53." In criticizing and disrespecting the head coach and organization, along with the history of poor, inappropriate decisions that he's made, it's an easy choice to see that he's not a part of the "right 53." They gave him a chance. Haley fed him the ball and got him involved in the game. Larry ran without purpose or care. To give a roster spot and a starting position to a guy who bad mouthed and second guessed the coach (and this wasn't the first time this season - remember when he did his best Whitlock impression in his post game presser? Ego...ego...ego...) takes away from the effort given by guys who are actually trying their best.

At this point, the team is much better off just letting Larry walk.

yes but it was perfectly obvious BEFORE Sunday that larry didnt give a **** and was just going through the motions. any moron could tell he has been a cancer forever, why does it take something as arbitrary as a twitter post to get everybody riled up? i dont have a problem with making an example of larry but the timing is bullshit. they shouldve made an example of him before the 1st game.

Agreed, and I really hope he doesn't play another down with the Chiefs. He only needs 70 or so more yards(I'm not sure of the exact number, so correct me if I'm wrong) to pass Priest for the most yards in franchise history. I'd much rather that this record stay with Priest until someone respectable can claim that honor.

This was obviously written by Larry's lawyer. Here's the apology if it were actually drafted by Leon, uh, Larry himself:

"First of all, I want to apologize to my posse, my broker, Jay-Z, and all the MF's and hangers on that rely on me to pay the tab at the club. To the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL, Commissioner Goodell, the Chiefs organization, Coach Todd Haley, his staff, and my teammates, kiss my lemony fress azz. If you'd open a hole or two, I wouldn't have this whack 2.7 carry average. I'm sick of all y'all. I got almost as many carries as Adrian Peterson. At least he got a damn O-Line to bust a seam for him now and agin. Damn. The words were used by me in flustration, And I'm as flustrated now as Herm was bout this time last year. I did not intend to offend any of you press homos, but that is no excuse for what I said, callin you all pillowbiters and such. I shoulda called you poopie pokers or somethin' cute like that. My bad, my bad.

"I also want to apologize to all the kids who view athletes as role models. I'm prob'ly gonna lose a sh*tload of money over all this, and bling is what I'm about, right? We all make mistakes. Like, you shouldn't rap about your boss. Or tweet about your boss. Or throw a drink in some club ho's face. Or spit on some ho. Or complain about how much time you get on the field. Or talk about your bosses ego. I will do my best to learn from this one as I go play for Oakland, or Philly, or Chicago, or Atlanta or some other bouncin' happenin' spot, no sh*thole like KC. Damn, get me the HELL outta here NOW!"

Then a couple hours later, he'll tweet about it, and say how he really feels.

It doesn't matter what he says.

It's over.

IT'S OVER, JOHNNY!

Chiefs suspend Johnson indefinitely

Posted: October 27th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Kansas City Chiefs, Larry Johnson, Todd Haley

The Kansas City Chiefs suspended RB Larry Johnson indefinitely on Tuesday, saying they are continuing to investigate his recent comments in which he reportedly belittled coach Todd Haley via Twitter and reportedly used gay slurs addressing media in the locker room. Johnson has been barred from practicing with the team or participating in team activities, with no timetable given for his return.

Haley is expected to address the situation surrounding Johnson during a news conference Tuesday, which is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. ET. That news conference can be seen live on NFL Network.

The Chiefs released a statement Tuesday announcing the decision on Johnson.

“The Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League are continuing to investigate the alleged comments made by Larry Johnson,” the statement read. “Until that review is complete, the Chiefs have instructed Larry to refrain from practicing with the Chiefs or participating in other team activities. A decision regarding Larry’s status will be made once the investigation has concluded.”

Johnson released an apology of his own Tuesday through his representatives.

“First of all, I want to apologize to the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the NFL, Commissioner Goodell, the Chiefs organization, Coach Todd Haley, his staff, and my teammates for the words I used yesterday,” the statement read. ”I regret my actions. The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate.

“I did not intend to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said. I also want to apologize to all the kids who view athletes as role models. I was not a good role model yesterday and hopefully I can become a better role model. We all make mistakes, and the challenge is to learn from them.

“I will do my best to learn from this one as I move toward becoming a better person, teammate, and member of the Kansas City Chiefs team and community.”

Ok gang...

I would think they could suspend him for the year for conduct, wouldn't you guys?

Would that free up a roster spot or not?

I am not really clear on the rules.

The Chiefs will hold a news conference Tuesday afternoon at 2:40 P.M. E.T. to address the comments made by Johnson on Twitter Sunday night. LJ has released a statement through his agent, apologizing to Todd Haley, the Chiefs, and the NFL. It rings hollow, however, when he says his intent was not to offend anyone even though he used a gay slur and belittled his head coach. Through his agent Larry Johnson announced he will be admitting himself into a treatment facility for ACS syndrome while the investigation is on going. No further details have been given nor did he elaborate on when LJ was officially diagnosed with ACS syndrome. Members of the Gay and Lesbian communities have condemned his comments as insensitive and unfortunate. Oct. 27 - 2:18 pm et

No harm no foul. I can guarantee this, my child or any child that has a caring parent does not view these sports figures as their "role model" .....LMAO give me a effin break. They wish they were put on a pedestal the way they view themselves. So go ahead and act out LJ...no one cares other than you providing good comedy. We all laugh at idiots that want to ruin their good fortune.
