No, for a couple of reasons.

A) The selfish one - you're in a lost season and you're in the midst of an historic performance. Let the man get his TD, he earned it.

B) The pragmatic one - you're more likely to botch that FG than you are to have the Chiefs drive for a TD on you. A blocked kick, a flubbed snap, a bad exchange while attempting to run the clock down; these are all things that can happen in a football game.

If you have an open route to the end-zone and you're in a tie game, you take the TD. Don't get cute and down it to set up a field goal, take the lead and play D. If the Browns had a 3 pt lead or something (like the Westbrook game), then it's a great decision. But if you're tied and the TD is there, you take it.

That's pretty much exactly how I felt after the last play.

When the ball left his hand it took it a second to register what he'd just done.

I mean he MFing LAUNCHED that ball skyward. I'll bet the damn ball hung in the air for 5 seconds. A previous poster had it right, that ball went further up than it went out.

It was as comical as anything we've seen this season. I think the only close 2nd was when he overthrew the back in the flat by a good 8 yards last week (it went about 5 feet over his head and out of bounds). As far as pure unintentional comedy goes, it would be very difficult to top that play.

I'll have to disagree about that being better than nothing.....

Good point. It was pretty bad at best. At least I got to see Charles go for 40+ and a TD somewhat live.

Cassel beat out Colquitt for hang time the entire game... that's how bad it was....

I don't agree with this. So far this year, the success rate for PATs is 98.4% based on these stats from nfl.com. Dawson's success rate is even higher than that. The chances of a Chiefs TD drive with less than a minute to go are low, but I think they're better than 1.6%, especially in a game in which the Chiefs offense was moving the ball pretty well. In fact, they came within a poorly-executed, 26-yard hail mary of doing it.

Besides, even if Dawson misses the game winner, you're still going to overtime.

He was trying to give Cottam time to trip over his own feet, get up and get back in position.

I mentioned that to my buddy when it happened.
I think Brian Westrook did that last year or the year prior.

edit:
I see someone else already mentioned Westbrook.

Personally...if executed correctly...I have no issues with the playcall...

Think about it...the receivers had more than enough time to make it a '500' type situation...usually...from 50 yards...the DB's have 100% advantage since they don't have to sprint 50 yards to get into position to make a miracle catch...

In this case...the Chiefs had every single one of their top/tall receivers lined up to make a miracle catch...Cassel just had to put the right distance on the ball...and he didn't...

And also...a pass interference could always happen since a lot of DB's don't get a lot of practice in this scenario...

The pass just wasn't executed...nothing wrong with the call though, if you ask me.`

With only 25 posts, I didn't want to scare the noob away.

As such, I simply read it, shook my head and moved along.

I think you struck a nice balance; well done.
