Yeah, I don't think soggy would be good. You want them to be firm, maybe a little more firm than the potatoes in au gratin potatoes. I also highly recommend mixing turnips, rutabagas, and parsnips so you get a mix of flavors. I'm not sure that having one of them alone would work as well.

that sounds good as well

I rather eat dirt than eat a beet. Taste about the same.

Just thinly slice a sweet potato....1/8 inch or less. Drop 5 or 6 into a Fry Daddy and fry them until they are as done as you like. You can salt them when they are hot or not.

Same thing as homemade potato chips.

If they taste the same you should go with the beet, mostly cause it's food and dirt isn't.

they are saying that some of these root vegetables may be carnivores

Although it's true that root vegetables are undervalued by most people, Mr. Rain Man, I'm sure you'll agree that the most underappreciated things of all times are anatomically correct yard gnomes.

Those poor little bastards sit out in the front lawn exposing themselves to the general public night and day without so much as a cod piece or a thank you.

I like my yard gnomes sauteed in butter and a little garlic. A splash of balsamic at the end is a nice touch, maybe a little grated parmesan.

Horseradish FTMFW.

Ooh, yeah. Highly underrated.

The only way I've ever had beets was pickled. They were... ok, I guess. But I wouldn't mind if I never had them again.

Sounds good, Mr. RJ. Better than boiled yard gnome, anyhow.

Discussing yard gnome recipes reminds me of the Middle Ages. Back then, of course, people were dying right and left from plague and smallpox and crotch rot and all kinds of horrible diseases. Interestingly, it was during this time that faeries and gnomes and elfs and brownies and other little people started popping up everywhere. Never, however, do you read about anybody trying to cook a faerie or an elf. I suppose they were too fast to catch. I guess, that's why they stuck to capturing and eating root vegetables which are slow.

Pickled beets are great. I could eat a whole jar at once. I'm a big fan of the dirt taste. Growing up poor, we usually just ate dirt for a couple of meals a day. Too bad they stain everything they touch.

It's pretty embarrassing when the dirt stain on your mouth turns a purple hue because you've been eating beets.
