Are we going to be the first team to cut the current NFL Man of the Year?

First off, McCluster's been nothing other than a playmaker. He's a freaking stud. I think he was probably taken a little high and considering the Chiefs have other needs, I was a little surprised by the selection. But there's no denying that the guy is a playmaker in the mold of Warrick Dunn, Darren Sproles and Wes Welker. If he comes in and contributes like Welker and Dunn, no one will give a shit if someone else was on the board.

Secondly, Arenas isn't exactly a midget. He's 5'9, 199 and was a serious playmaker for Alabama. He'll start as the nickel immediately and will likely force Carr to nickel down the road. He's an electrifying returner and Gruden compares him to Ronde Barber, who is barely 5'10 and 184.

While I agree that I expected the Chiefs to address the middle of the defense, I'm not at all bummed out that these guys were the selections.

The Chiefs needed leaders and playmakers and they got them in the second round.

This....

The Chief way is too epically miss on 2nd round picks. Looks like those two philosophies are starting to mesh.

Arenas won't force Carr out of his starting spot. He was only a "serious playmaker" in college in the return game. He's a middling CB at the pro level, IMO.

A lot of things I've read compare Arenas to Alphonso Smith.

You know, the CB the Donx took that we bash them unmercifully for.

Arenas is more of a playmaker than Smith every was, and Smith was a solid college player FWIW.

I like the idea of building a team around character and work ethic. This is necessary for the chemistry of the team. A few bad apples in the locker room can wreak havoc on the chemistry of the entire team. I'm not saying it isn't possible to control one or two egos, but the whole process is much easier with a majority of good character guys and a team-first attitude. I'm not saying that I 100% agree with all of our picks thus far(damn a good run-stuffing NT would have been nice), but I think it is wise to put some consideration into character when looking to upgrade whether it be through free agency or the draft.

As a returner? Sure...

As a CB Smith had 21 career Int's...Arenas had 2.

I don't know if we'd bash them quite as hard as we do if they'd have spent the 37 on him straight up, rather than giving up a first this year to draft him at 37. Although they are Denver, so we might bash them regardless.
