Indeed.

I need to search old threads to see if there is a BBQ sammich thread. I seriously don't know where to find a good one.:banghead:

Oklahoma Joe's. Get a pulled pork or a Z-man (brisket). Good stuff.

over the years, most of the popular places. I don't think I've had a truly nasty sammich, but most have been average / so-so etc. I guess just disappointing considering all the hype ?
OK Joes - long time ago, but remember a big onion ring on top; it was damn good. Probably the best that I can recall. would definitely go back.

Zarda - average at best. this is where i got the 'tastes like lunch meat' comment. My brother mentioned that, and it sort of stuck in my head. Fried mushrooms were the best part of the meal. Dont' care to go back if I can help it.

Gates - brisket and ham. it was 'ok'. AGain, I guess I had built up some hype in my head. Ive only eaten there twice in 10 years; the first about 8 years ago; the 2nd about 3 months ago. brisket was dry, chewy; wasn't all the big compared to the price etc. Fries were good. Don't care to go back unless I should try something else.

Bee Cee's - hole in the wall off Blue Ridge and 470. used to get it all the time whe I lived in Grandview. Good sized sammich; good prices; meat was always good. Not sure if they're even there any more.

K & M - ...but a LONG time ago...can't really remember it. remeber getting something with the word "Killer" in the name. I'd go back.
Brobecks' - right across from where we moved to. it's average at best. same deal as gates; dry brisket, chewy; reminded me of lunchmeat (turkey/ham). but decent price I suppose.

......those are about the only ones that stick out.

I'm sure there are a ton I've never been to/heard of. I like the hole in the wall joints.

Zarda's does indeed suck. They're bad and you are correct about them being bad. How KC's rich barebcue culture suddenly turned into
"90% lunchmeat" based off of Zarda's and Brokecks is beyond me. Do you know that the KC area has 90-100 BBQ places open at any given time? Two lunchmeat places is not 90%, it is 2%.

You've been to the incredible OK Joe's and L.C.'s. Go back. Also consult this list (http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/2070) and pick names at random.

That's the Z-man.

If you think the BBQ in KC is mediocre I would suggest driving down to Texas and trying their BBQ. When you return you will have a whole new respect for Kansas City BBQ.

The best meal I've seen him down was when he was in Anchorage, AK and he finished the eating challenge at Humpy's. Alaskan crab legs, crab cakes, salmon fillet. The worst part was I watching it at like 2am and everything was closed.

My favorite episodes so far have been Anchorage and New York City.

Fried carp?!?!? WTF!

I know, right? It sounds terrible but believe it or not its really pretty good stuff. They've been selling it as their signature dish since the 40's. Look it up, Joe Tess' Place.
It's called their famous fish. I can't really handle the greasy stuff anymore but
I'll have it every now and again.

Except in this case. Using 3 layers of white bread just for support is disgusting. It looks like a child tried to make the highest sandwhich he could, pile a lop of shit on it just because and called it a sandwhich.

Dude. You might wanna change your sig. In case you havent heard, LJ is not longer a Chief. :D

chalk it up to bad experiences with BBQ sammiches.
I know good ones are out there...I've just gotta find them.

Go to Arthur Bryants and have a Beef/ Sausage combo with fries. I also suggest a red cream soda. My favorite meal.

The dumbest thing about that challenge is the 45 min time limit. It basically makes it impossible. There are 6.5 lbs of food in the challenge. 45/6.5 = 7 min per each lb of food. Honestly, it should have like a two hour time limit. It seems like the dude wanted to make it impossible....meh...I guess he succeeded. I don't see many people even trying it because it is obviously not possible by anyone except maybe Joey Chestnut.

Demonpenz 08-11-2010 08:41 PM

i eat zarda pulled pork is pretty good. Ok joes...the best..around no ones ever going to let you down (sweep the leg)

i think kobayashi could do it too. I remmeber on MTV true life he pounded out 8lbs of food in an hour. Then his metabloism vaporized it all by the next day
