Boise State and Oklahoma will likely debut at the top of the first BCS standings on Sunday, according to collegebcs.com's Jerry Palm.

Boise State would be highest-rated non-BCS school in the 13-year history of the BCS. The Broncos were atop the unofficial BCS projections last week, followed by Oregon. But two top-five upsets allowed Oklahoma to move up. No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 Nebraska each lost, carving out space for the Sooners to find a familiar spot in the BCS standings. This would be the fourth time Oklahoma has opened among the top two.

Oregon is expected to be No. 3 in the BCS behind, in some order, the Broncos and Sooners. In the human polls, Oregon should be a consensus No. 1 after the Buckeyes' loss. The Ducks got there by lying on the couch. They were off Saturday and will defend their top spot in the polls for the first time Thursday against UCLA.

What does it all mean? Only once in the previous 12 seasons have the two teams that debuted 1-2 met in the BCS title game (2005, Texas-USC). Nine times, though, one of those teams has played for the championship.

Boise State had the previous highest debut for a non-BCS school (No. 4) last season before finishing sixth. A similar fate awaits the Broncos unless more teams around them start losing. After seven weeks, there are still 10 unbeaten teams, three of them (Boise, Utah, TCU) from outside BCS conferences. Boise State's schedule strength is likely to affect its chances down the stretch. It will play only one currently ranked team (Nevada) the remainder of the season. The Wolf Pack lost to Hawaii early Sunday morning, so that ranking might be gone in a few hours.

Sagarin ratings are out.

His rankings that enter into the BCS formula are:

1. Oklahoma
2. Oregon
3. Michigan State
4. Auburn
5. Stanford
6. Boise State
7. TCU
8. LSU
9. Mizzou
10. Wisconsin

So Oregon is penalyzed for having a bye? And alabama isn't in the top 10 anymore? As much as I love mizzou, I wouldn't put them in the top 10.

The ELO_CHESS rankings are what go into the BCS. They are different from the overall rankings.

They can put OU at 1 but they won't stay there. They will drop a game by the end of the regular season.

Rausch 10-17-2010 10:45 AM

Hells yeah.

Fla St. and MIZZOU climbing the ladder...

I think I am the only person that actually likes the BCS. I love it. It adds excitement each week of the season. Gives us something to talk about. And plus, it already is a playoff. It starts in week one. The only team is slights is TCU and Boise State, which will work themselves out when they finally join a better conference like Utah is doing.

If you add a plus one game, I really think it is a good system. If you get 3rd or 4th of your conference, you don't deserve a shot at a National Title. That is why I think the NCAA Tournament is such a fucking joke. You can get 7th or 8th in your league, get in the tournament and have a shot at the title. :shake:

It's starting to happen. Big name school jumping over TCU. OU 35 points behind BSU. How does TCU deserve a 1st place vote? Auburn gets one. Can coach vote for his own team?? :)
