I thought you could only go back in time as far back as the day you were born. To work correctly the events had to be in your 'lifetime'.

Yeah, what is being described in the article is similar to relativity. Not "time travel" but altered time flow. Off the top of my head a strong enough electromagnetic field would distort a chronometer anyway. Not to mention the paradox. If this were true then.....
