I would only shoot a worthless animal like a cat.

Cats are an domesticated animal for a reason. I have friends who have a ranch and they keep cats in the barn and those cats are absolutely vital to keeping the rats/mice/rodent populations down. I personally love cats, I think they are great but for whatever reason some people can't stand them.

As for these deer shooters, I'll bet anything it was some teenage boys. Unsupervised kids who were bored because their parents are idiots.

Elmwood's heyday was from around 1880 to 1930.

The first mayor of KC is buried there (William Gregory) along with several other mayors and politicians, including judges and congressmen.

Families that have streets in KC named after them (Hardesty, McGee, Meyer and Gregory).

Guys who were major business people in their day: The Amour Family plot is there (Armour Meats, Armourdale area in KCK named after the family), Carl Muehlbach started Muehlbach Beer , old Blues/Municipal Stadium was first called "Muehlbach Field," Samuel Woolfe (Woolfe Brothers Clothing), Victor Spears (Spears Apple Juice and Vinegar), Morris Helzberg (Helzberg Diamonds), and Mary Atkins (Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art).

Also KC's most famous whore house madam Annie Chambers is buried there, plus KC's first black policeman, William Davis.

It sucks someone killed this deer and didn't eat it, but I don't get why people get more upset about someone shooting an animal than they do about all the people that get killed every day.

gblowfish 08-06-2013 12:10 PM

There is obviously a lot of senseless killing, especially on KC's East Side. And we become numb to it because we hear about shootings in KCK, or the East Side, or Midtown, just about every day in KC.

This story makes me feel weary. I love animals, many of them I love more than some people I know. And it's just a Goddamn shame that in this one little island in the middle of all the decay and crap that is the KC East Side, that this one little animal that brought so much happiness to people who visited that cemetery had to be needlessly shot. It just sucks.

I suppose the cynic in me says its inevitable, and the realist in me says the death of an animal is not as serious as that of a human being. But still, its little things in life, like a peaceful harmless deer living in an old city cemetery, and bringing joy to the people who visit there, that gives hope and delight to life in some weird way. It's just depressing that something special like this always has to end because of some senseless act of stupidity.

Sometimes I want to shoot annoying birds that build nests and shit above my patio. But this article is why I don't like 90% of people.

I wouldn’t say “worthless” but a dog is a far superior pet.

Yup, I guess they catch mice. So pretty much worthless.
