Man, the field in this edition is brutal. 2002 and 2010 were relatively weak World Cups. Our chances of making it to the knockout round can't be very high. If we draw a group with France + Italy/Portugal/Netherlands, our chances to advance will plummet.

A European team has never won a WC in South America. Right now my money would be on Brazil or Argentina.

Here's a draw simulator that's fun to play around with:

If Brazil loses in their own country all hell is going to break loose.

It is going to be brutal so many good teams in so many pots yet there isn't the clear favorite this time around though you have to give a nod to Brazil...Spain certainly is not what it has been in the past.

We need to enlist one of the photo shop nerds to make this happen.

2014 World Cup field is set.

We will not be in any group with: Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Japan, or South Korea.

So pretty much we will be in a really strong group.

Hopefully a CAF team and a non dominant UEFA team (Greece/England).

I pray we get England again. After their claims of "E.A.S.Y" last WC and we won the group.

(England / Algeria / Slovenia / Yanks)

Has the US ever won a world cup?

For us to win the World Cup would be on the order of magnitude of

-USA beating Russia in 1980 in Hockey
-Francis Oumlet beating Harry Vardon in the 1913 US Open
-The Broncos defeating the Packers to end a 15 AFC Super Bowl losing streak
-Spliting an atom
-Superman reversing time in the 1977 Motion Picture Superman.

In other words it would unpossible.

Buck 12-05-2013 04:59 PM

The Broncos Super Bowl was not monumental at all for the reason you listed.

Talk about getting f'd in the draw. Portugal, Germany and our perennial thorn in the side, Ghana.

We look better but not that much better. Out after pool play.

Best thing we have going for us is that we play Germany last. They'll have already throttled Portugal and Ghana and will likely be on cruise control in anticipation of the rd 16.

If we can finally beat Ghana, tie w Portugal and keep the Germany score close we might sneak into the rd of 16.

How is that F'd in the draw? Did you play with any simulators before hand...there are about a million worse combos than the one we draw.

Is it tough? Sure.

Welcome to the World Cup!
