**** that. If you're just going to regrow it, tell them who they're getting up front. Let your experience and personality get you the job.

Have to know what the job is... But as a general rule of thumb it's better to be clean shaven.

I always present who I am. I'm not going to change who I am. I don't want to set an expectation that I'm not willing to uphold. That means I'm going in with facial hair of some sort, and every interview in the past 10 years, I didn't wear a tie. I'll wear a nice shirt, slacks, a blazer if that's what they want. I don't do ties.

Dang, 7 jobs in 15 years? What do you say when they ask where you want to be in 5 years, 3 jobs down the line?

Like I said some of those were at the same time.

From 2000-06 I worked three jobs - newspaper, TV, and a church. From then on, all TV jobs. Moving locations, moving jobs, moving companies is part of the culture, so no one really bats an eye when you only stay somewhere for a couple years.

As for my job, I'm in a great position and the company likes me. I'm kinda forging my own path, which is pretty cool. The last two jobs I've had were positions that were created for me.

I should clarify that I've been with the same company since 2008, though I've had unrelated jobs in that company and moved departments and locations.

I keep my beard trimmed and clean - doesn't look like a scraggly mess. I'm young, but look like I'm about 12 years old clean shaven.

Any input appreciated.

how bad do you need/want the job?

badly? then shave
don't care then don't shave

I didn't take it as a knock.

Part of the biz. TV people generally have to move to move up.

I was an independent IT contractor for 15 years. New gig every year.

Shit got old... I'm all settled in and comfy now. Less pay though.

Tell them you have to have some hair on your body to feel masculine but if it makes you feel better I shaved my balls.

Clean shaven is the way to go at all times. I applied for my first faculty position at age 30. I looked so young that at the first faculty meeting I was assumed to be the son of one of the other faculty members. I had to wear a tie into the classroom to avoid being mistaken for another student. Appearing younger than my age never slowed me down a bit.

Buzz 10-22-2015 07:44 PM

If you are young, I would say go into like your talking to your dad with humility and respect, not like some alpha male that wants to take over the company.

DaveNull 10-22-2015 07:48 PM

Beards are cool these days.

Good luck tomorrow!

Giving yourself a clean shaven appearance is usually the best bet. Depends on the job of course. Currently no one cares if I shave for what I am doing but I don't let it get out of hand.
