When they started building the Theta engines (the 2.4L and one of the 2.0L) in America, they had some casting problems that left metal shavings in the block. Eventually it would grenade the engine. Hyundai/Kia replaced the engines and extended the powertrain warranty even to owners who bought them used. I believe it only affected the engines from 2011-2014.

For $350/mo, you could pay cash for a F150 and just use it on gas?

Do you remember how much you paid for it? I have this idea I could get one for around 350 or less a month.

We bought our 2011 Optima EX in 2013. It had 22k miles and we paid around 19k, if memory serves. Still driving it today. Wife loves it. Leather, heated/cooled seats, moon roof (or panoramic I think is what some call it). It gets pretty good gas mileage (33mpg hwy). Good get up and go. Also has good handling so you can have a little fun with it.

And when we got it, I liked the styling much better than many other sedan type cars. I read that the designer for Audi had joined Kia and that was his first design with them. I now see that other manufacturers have tried to copy some of that styling over the last few years.

One issue that I found out about recently was a manufacturing flaw involving the engine

Kia is recalling the 2011 -14 Optima; 2012 – 14 Sorento and the 2011 – 13 Sportage.
This, of course, ended up affecting my 2011.

The problem is that metal debris wasn’t removed from the engine during manufacturing and that debris can clog oil passages, leading to engine failure.

Briggs Kia in Topeka did replace the engine last fall/winter when it suddenly started acting up. I realize that all manufacturers have their screwups from time to time but this one was a pretty major one. At least they finally did the right thing.

Great cars and warranty from Kia and Hyundai.
Own the sonata currently. That stinger is lovely, I hope Hyundai does one also but I have a feeling they will roll it into their Genesis line.

I was wanting the new blazer until they released that ugly abomination.

Lzen 07-12-2019 12:04 PM

Stinger looks really cool. But $33k starting price is a little more than I'd want to spend.

We were at the bank recently and mentioned that I’d be getting a car for Uber.

The bank rep said we’ll finance anything but Kia, lol.
He said the depreciation is crazy on them, lol.

Titty Meat 07-12-2019 03:25 PM

Going to look tonight and possible negotiate

lewdog 07-12-2019 05:33 PM

Have you looked at purchasing a lifted truck to compensate for your tiny dick?

That doesn’t seem right since they are priced affordably new, the depreciation should be less.

My wife's Sorento has held it's relative value. I'm not saying it's held value like a BMW, but that's not what we're talking about.

I wonder what they were comparing it to?

It probably has something to do with repairs : the 10 yr/100,000 mi Powertrain Warranty is only valid for the original owner.

A (gently) used 2017 Optima can still fetch $12/$14k on resell. It just doesn't have that Powertrain warrany

eDave 07-12-2019 06:21 PM

Look at an Altima, one year older. Still the better car.

Titty Meat 07-12-2019 06:21 PM

Drove the 2016 Optima EX fully loaded. If they can come down on the monthly payments I'm in
