Im not so sure about that. He was a big help, but his amount of snaps was so limited, especially the further into the year that we got. After week 14 he only played more than 20 snaps 1 time.

Week 14 - 18 snaps - 94 rush yards allowed
Week 15 - 17 snaps
Week 16 - 14 snaps
Week 17 - 14 snaps
Playoff Game 1 - 13 snaps
Playoff Game 2 - 24 snaps
Super Bowl - 15 snaps

He did a damn good job when he was in, but no one with that limited amount of snaps is going to be the sole reason for the run D's turn around. It was several factors that played into the run D's improvement.

With that being said I want him to come back and would think a 2 yr/$12 mil or at most 3 yr/$18 mil. 3 years is the absolute max I'd do, but 2 years takes him to 30 years old. He just finished out a 2 yr/$8 mil, so the above contract would be a nice little raise.

I doubt Mike was in good football shape is why those snap counts were minimized in mostly certain run downs.

Pennel is not worth that kind of money. No way. He's a $2M per year kinda player.

MahiMike 03-24-2020 12:51 PM

Well they can't have him!

TomBarndtsTwin 03-24-2020 04:13 PM

Yeah, I love Pennell and I want him here too, but people are way overestimating his importance.

He’s only gonna play 20-30% of snaps at most. He’s not worth a big contract.

$2-$3 mil. per year is appropriate. 3 for $10 mil. or 4 for $12 is the most I would do if I were the Chiefs, especially taking their current cap situation into account.

He signed a 3 yr/$10.5 mil contract with the Jets in 2018 and then a 2 yr/$5 mil up to $8 mil with incentives in 2019 with the Pats. There is no way he's signing for less than the deal with the Pats. I'd be willing to bet he signs closer to $6 mil/yr than $2 mil/yr.

They can't have him. I wont allow it.

TomBarndtsTwin 03-24-2020 06:07 PM

So in the last 3 years, he’s signed a 3 for $10.5 and a 2 for $5.

I would say that indicates he is what he is. A part time $2 - $3 mil. per year player.

There’s no way a part time rotational run stopper is getting $6 mil. per year. Not happening.

pennel back with the chiefs on a 1 year.
