Yeah, got a good tempered border collie and I've seen him go at a couple of cats that instigated him with killing intent.

Also, you kinda gotta be an older cat on your way out anyway right? My cats are fast as hell and excellent climbers and jumpers and have great hearing, to boot. Can’t imagine they would ever put themselves around a dog they couldn’t get away from. Unless they get to old and their brain tells them to do shit they just can’t physically do anymore, which mimics my sports playing life these days.
