I'm telling the next guy I want property.

I have a Rolex, but I think it's dumb. I just kind of bought it because they hold their value and good to own some shit like that that hedges inflation.

I really liked Omega watches a hell of alot better than most Rolex watches but I was advised Omega doesn't hold their value or resell as well.

I paid 250.00 for my wife's ring and we have been married for 21 years this year. Been with here for 23. Not sure I would spend 8,500.00 for a ring but then again my wife does not like stuff like that.

Flying High D 01-05-2022 08:22 AM

I would sell my wife for 8500.

Good lord. Unless you're absolutely loaded, I have no idea how a ring could ever be worth $8,500.

Nice diamonds are expensive.

I don't deny that they charge that much. I just don't know why anyone would pay that much. I spent about $1500 on my wife's ring, and she keeps it in a drawer in favor of a $150 band we got that mirrors it because she thinks the real one is too fancy for daily use.

It's ridiculous how much society has bought into the diamond industry's hype. They're goddamn sparkly rocks.

GSI usually has some grade inflation in there.

Granted, it's been 17 years since I've done all my homework on this stuff, but when I bought my diamond I immediately ruled out anything not granted by GIA because they were going to be the harshest graders and I knew at that point that if I'm paying for an F, VVS, Ideal cut diamond that's what I'm going to get. And they'll note any inclusion on the diamond accurately so you'll know if you can hide it under a prong on the setting.

We used GSI after we bought it so we could goose its valuation when we looked to insure it.

So yeah - it's valuable. But not that valuable.

I'd probably take the 'main' stone out, sell it independently, and then sell the setting on its own.

Apparently the "value" of diamonds is completely fabricated by DeBeers. They're not even rare stones.

If true, that's a hell of a marketing campaign.

I had to look it up.

I spent about 4 on the wife's. Since I was in the books, I looked up my wage, and it was about 2 months wages. Good lord I was a dork.

I'm in your camp, but the wife loves it and still wears it every day. Probably it means more to her than me. She's catholic and had our rings blessed, and that matters to her. My ring doesn't fit anymore (it was like a $200 tungsten ring), and there is less than no chance I'd wear it in my profession, but she told me years ago that if I get a new one the right size I need to get it blessed. So all this stuff means different stuff to her than me.

I think I need to go get a groove ring or whatever other silicone ring to not be a ****ing heathen and I actually do love my wife.
