Gotta think it's now or never for EB. If he doesn't get a coaching job this year, there's definitely something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.

I think we DO know why he doesn't get job offers...

FTR, Caldwell was brought in on recommendation of the search committee the Bears put together, or at least that's what Bears fans believe. May not be Poles first choice.

Sweet! More draft ammo.

On a serious note I’ll always remember this guy from the night we drafted Patrick. He was making sure the card was turned in.

Solid. Didn't fax it.

I really doubt Poles will go with EB. Not after the Nagy experiment.

Given his tree I really wonder if he goes defense. He’s got two intriguing options in eberflus (Ballard) or Jonathan Gannon (eagles). May not be a bad idea for a bears team whos identity right now revolves around defense.

That's exactly why he should be looking for someone offensively minded. That team needs someone to develop Fields or find someone else. A defensive coach will most likely squander what promise they have.

Or what if he mentioned EB as one of his top choices and they shot it down?

Either way, not good for EB.

I'm thinking if he was already shot down before he was hired, then he'd tell them to **** off and wouldn't want to be micromanaged.

I know Denver (lol knowmo) but I don't remember the others?

This is... looking kind of troubling. Particularly if Caldwell is already in the building before this announcement has even become official news. Makes me think Poles presented Caldwell as his first choice during the interview.

Or maybe Chicago ownership told Poles they didn’t want another KC OC as HC??

With Payton stepping down maybe there's a possible EB spot. That's like 8 jobs available, if he doesn't get 1 of these he might never get one....

Yeah, I’m really looking forward to seeing Kafka’s spin on the offense, since he’s probably one of the people who know him best.

Not sure how much I buy that. I don’t know that fields will be a qb you revolve your offense around. And the bears were a few years removed from an insane defense. Josh Allen and justin Herbert have thrived under defensive head coaches with excellent offensive coaching staffs. You just need to hire a great offensive coordinator. I’d argue that many OCs also squander good qbs because they’re too stubborn to give up playcalling.

Gotta bring in someone that can make something out of Fields. And that’s not a turnkey job by any means.

The Bears have more young talent than people realize - this team CAN be good. But he’s gotta get this hire right.

His coaching style isn’t for everyone.

I think his best shot is either Chicago or Minnesota. If he doesn’t get one of those jobs, I can’t see a great fit elsewhere. He’s great with running backs, but I'm not sure how his yell and curse style will fit with a team looking to nurture a new QB and to orchestrate a high flying offense with built in counter punches.

And when you have success, that OC gets a HC job, and you’re back to square one…

I'd Hire DaBol (SP?) for HC. I think Allen and Fields could be similar.

All kinds of coaches with all kinds of personalities have success in the NFL. From gruff assholes like Belichick to loose and upbeat like Sean McVay to nerdy mad scientist types like Brandon Staley (well... kinda... in theory, anyway). Obviously those are broad and perhaps unfair generalizations that overlook all of the many things that make great coaches successful, but the point is that coaching style shouldn't be an issue for why someone is or is not great. Because you can make just about any coaching style work as long as you're good.

Hoover 01-25-2022 01:45 PM

I think Byron Leftwich will get a job.
