LMAO Found the exact numbers. Of course Knowmo posted it to try and troll.

Those numbers would've gone up by the time he was eligible.

I think he was the last class under that system, though. They made it performance based the following year, IIRC.

As much as I hate to admit it Patrick always struck my as a young John Elway much more than a Brett Farve like QB.

To this day I tear up thinking about how Mahomes changed this entire franchise’s fortunes after so much heartbreak and disappointment. My 16yr old son has mostly only been a part of the Mahomes days. Anytime I’m feeling down, or having a bad day, I think about Patrick Mahomes and the 2 SB trophy’s he brought to our beloved franchise and I’m instantly in a better mood.

Great article but I still want to explode everytime "his"name is metnioned

The worst part of this, and I'm old enough to remember, is that the Chiefs really wanted Dan Marino and Makovic was given full reign in the draft and wanted that Penn State wonder...

The 80s... a great time for Royals baseball and a frustrating time for Chiefs football. Tickets were always easy to come by.

Glad I'm still around to see the Chiefs finally make a move and take a chance because you miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.

Ha! That's funny.

My first thought when we made the move was "Damn, would've been nice to have gotten him at 11 and gotten that lower 5th year option value..."

So I'll tip my cap to Veach on that one for using it to his advantage and honestly, he's probably not wrong. Because I have to believe the Bengals would've been willing to move down had they been approached aggressively enough.

That probably played a pretty big role in the Saints sitting pat, at least. Those guys have had themselves fighting cap issues for a decade or so - it really might have been on their mind at that point.

But that's also why I don't really believe Payton when he says "That was the best kid I ever scouted". Bullshit - if you REALLY thought that, you don't let anyone trade in front of you.

Yeah but they probably weren't expecting KC to do what they did. In the story KC was hoping the Chargers did not take him at #7 and it worked out. Their gamble paid off while NO's didn't.

They should do a write up on all the college coaches that passed up on Mahomes.

No he's right. Mahomes always reminded me of John Elway and Dan Marino combo more than Farve comparison did.

He has Elway's mobility and big arm combined with Marino's ability to scan the field, knife edge throws, and quick decision making.

Farve was a mobile, backyard gun-slinger who was prone to bad decisions in pressure situations. Farve couldn't scan the field as well as any of the other qb's I metioned.

I would take John Elway over Brett Farve a million times over. And I would take Dan Marino over anybody else until Mahomes showed up.

If I get my ass-kicked for my opinion, so be it :p

1. I was SOOO pissed when the Chiefs passed on Marino. And, I was pissed the moment I found out about the pick.

I was a kid, but my Mom remembers it and so does one of my cousins. But, I know it sounds like apocryphal BS.

2.In Mackovic's defense, I can see how he ****ed up. Blackledge was 6-4, 225 or so, had a big arm, QB'd Penn State to a national title. Blackledge was also a smart guy that's going to sound good at the dinner table. Graduated Penn State with a 3.5 GPA in Business. Even had a pedigree, b/c his Dad was a longtime Steelers assistant.

Plus, Blackledge could look good when the play went as it was drawn up. But, he would totally freeze when shit went wrong. I think his brain simply didn't work fast enough. You didn't see it in college b/c Penn State had a dominant line and a stud running back in Curt Warner.

3. They even had Clark watching video. Damn, they were in love.

I am curious how well Clark has been trained to watch video. I mean his Dad was an NFL owner before he was born. You'd think that he's at least gotten scouting 101 in how to break down video, once his Dad decided Clark was going to be the "Chairman."

4.To tell you how cold-blooded Clark is, 1 month later he fires Dorsey b/c of his cap management problems. Pulls off the biggest draft coup in franchise history, and gets fired. Hell, he even landed the NFL rushing leader in round 3.

Though, if you know Clark's background, it's not really surprising he cans Dorsey for bad cap management. Clark graduated as valedictorian in finance from SMU. His first job was working at Goldman Sachs. Building analytical math models of the market is bread and butter for him. A guy who can't manage the cap is going to piss him off.

Mahomes is not like Elway in the following ways:

1. He didn't have to cheat the cap to win titles.

2. He has 2 NFL MVPs

3. He has never thrown 23 INTs in a season (lol)

4. He's not a scotch-swilling drunk who doesn't know how to operate a fax machine

5. He builds franchises instead of destroy them

That's it. I'm coming for you.

You're right about Dan Marino being the second-best QB after Mahomes, though. I really appreciated Marino as a football player even if he wasn't a Chief.

That other guy you mention was a mediocre, mistake-prone buffoon who was never in the top ten during his lumbering tour of the NFL.

crayzkirk 08-25-2023 07:00 PM

Comparing Elway and Mahomes is insulting to Patrick. Please stop. That just sounds like Donkey homerism and you can take that back to Dungver where it belongs. Elway was successful against the Chiefs because Marty played scared.

Don't you dare compare the Chiefs to the cheating Donkeys. it's insulting to the team, ownership, coaching and the fans. Just GTFO with that crap.
