They were trying to get ahead of Doug Peterson and Jacksonville, who drafted Anton Harrison.

Harrison is a tackle, he played OL at Oklahoma, and was widely regarded as a good LT prospect (even though Jax has moved him over to RT). And he ended up being drafted by a former Andy Reid lieutenant. Shortly after the draft, the Chiefs signed Donovan Smith.

Harrison was the guy they were after.

If I recall correctly they did try to trade up with multiple teams. No one wanted to deal with Veach in the first round.

No, not always. No team does that. But they're probably above the average in that department.

That's just as important as finding a diamond in the rough or two every year. You can't just **** off your 1st round picks.
