In this situation the only HC you're going to get is someone who wouldn't get a HC shot anywhere else. A young up and comer isn't going to go there, because most only get one chance at HC in the NFL. They will end up with an elderly coordinator, a previously failed HC, etc.

Problem is that he's got to find someone who believes in Young

I bet Josh McDaniels is checking his phone every 15 minutes.

What?

Jim Caldwell is still in the league? What the ****?

Talk about a dude that rode the coattails of greatness to keep getting ****ing jobs.

I always thought the guy was underrated and it was weird that guys like McDaniels and Gase keep getting chances over and over and he didn't. I'm sure his age didn't help.

He was gifted an amazing situation, but he legit could have had an undefeated season in Indy. They shouldn't have given up on that. And even more impressive he's the only Lions coach in the last FIFTY years to have a winning record as Lions coach. He was 36-28 and made them a playoff team. And that still wasn't good enough.

I think they are by far the worst HC opening, considering the other potential jobs that will be available.

1) Chicago… As of now they have the first overall pick and the 5th overall pick. Decent amount of cap space and a relatively weak division.

2) Chargers… A franchise QB, but a bad/old roster and in the same division as Mahomes.

3) Washington… Meh roster, tough division.

4) Patriots… No QB, terrible roster, tough division/conference.

5) Carolina… Stuck with Bryce Young, no first round draft pick next year, Daniel Snyder 2.0 as owner.

That makes sense. Hope it does not happen.

or Texas Tech QB's before Mahomes... Gotta grade them individually.

I would bet money on EB to the Panthers. That makes perfect sense at this point. :thumb:

Yep, I'd stay away from Williams as well. Judge the player, not the pedigree. Saban may be able to give you an unstoppable defensive player, but on the Quarterback position his imprint is mediocre. He had Hurts but then went with Tua above him, but outside of those two recent examples, only one of which has gone to a Super Bowl, you're asking for it when you draft an Alabama QB and ask them to save your franchise. They're given everything on a silver platter, where their mistakes can easily be erased by the talent surrounding them.

Going back to 83 when I was born you have:

Notre Dame - Theismann
Louisiana State - David Woodley
Stanford - Plunkett
Pittsburgh - Marino
BYU - McMahon
Illinois - Eason
Morehead State - Simms
Stanford - Elway
Grambling - Doug Williams
Maryland - Boomer Esiason
West Virginia - Hostetler
Miami (FL) - Jim Kelly
Washington State - Rypien
Oklahoma - Aikman
UCLA - Aikman
NE Louisiana - Humphries
Southern Mississippi - Brett Favre
Washington - Chris Chandler
Alcorn State - Steve McNair
Northern Iowa - Kurt Warner
Fresno State - Trent Dilfer
Penn State - Kerry Collins
Michigan - Tom Brady
Delaware - Rich Gannon
Louisiana-Lafeyette - Jake Delhomme
Syracuse - Donovan McNabb
Miami (OH) - Ben Roethlisburger
Boston College - Matt Hasselbeck
Tennessee - Peyton Manning
Purdue - Drew Brees
Florida - Rex Grossman
Mississippi - Eli Manning
California - Aaron Rodgers
Nevada - Colin Kaepernick
NC State - Russell Wilson
Wisconsin - Russell Wilson
Auburn - Cam Newton
Arizona - Nick Foles
Eastern Illinois - Jimmy Garoppolo
Texas Tech - Co-GOAT
Georgia - Stafford
LSU - Burrow
Alabama - Hurts
Oklahoma - Hurts

Alabama has co-produced only one Super Bowl Quarterback in my lifetime, three others before my lifetime being Kenny Stabler, Joe Namath and Bart Starr. They've changed to the team that everyone wants to go to to make them rich, famous, to make their college ball easier, or all of the above.

I get it, that the University doesn't make the Quarterback successful in the NFL, but their intentions in today's game does. I wouldn't take a QB from Alabama if I were a GM and Nick Saban has shown the lack of proper QB progression even if his style is more Pro ready. Of course it's all a guessing game, but even without the names, I could make that call using recent history that CJ Stroud should've been taken over Bryce Young. Work in the size as well, CJ would have to do something pretty drastic to not be considered for either.

So based on your logic, Mahomes would have been a no go if you were a GM?

Because EB desperately wants to be a HC. Because he isn't likely to get a HC gig on any other team. (He already applied for HC with ALMOST [lol] every other team and was turned down.) Because it's highly unlikely that any established HC would go to Charlotte because of the current owner's recent history with HCs and because of the roster. Because EB has experience coaching the greatest QB of all time and that could translate to getting the Panthers' young midget QB to an acceptable level. (EB has already made great progress with the Commanders' young QB.)

I could go on, but that should cover it. :thumb:

Young isn't any good. No coach can fix that. They can hide it like Peyton is doing with Russ but at the end of the day you are not winning anything with that QB.

Caldwell is sneaky better-than-mediocre. He's ok, but it's still a shocker for most people to find out he had the Lions playing better than .500 ball with Megatron and Stafford.

Scallops aren’t a bad fancy dinner order. They come with sauces and sides that are kinda time consuming to make at home. Similar to risotto.
