Actually you may still be fined for it. A had lunch with a KS Game Warden a few years ago and he told me he had to write a little old lady a ticket because she had hit a blue jay with her car. It's technically still a violation of the Migratory Bird act to do so.

Or he could have not written her a ticket

WTF

How can you write someone a ticket for something that is obviously an accident?

the law doesn't technically allow for accidents. It specifies only the taking or killing as an absolute. She was reported because she had kept the feathers and someone ratted her out.

That is a pretty amazing pic, frozenchief.

I have a similar story, though nothing as crazy as an eagle. I was on my way home a year or two ago on the county road going about 60. A hawk (red hawk, I think - the main one native to KS) swooped down from high up where he had been sitting watching for prey. The sucker flew right in front of my truck and I heard it slam into the grill. As I'm watching this whole thing unfold, I just couldn't believe that was happening. I mean, this is busy road so I would think that animals would be weary of vehicles but nope.

I looked around but didn't see it anywhere so I thought it might be stuck in the front grill of my truck. I was only about 1/2 mile from home so I figured I would just check it when I got home. At home, I got out of the truck fully expecting to see a bloody hawk carcass stuck to my truck but I was kind of surprised to find that there was nothing. I have no idea what happened to that hawk. Next time I drove on that strip of county road, I looked around for a dead hawk but didn't see anything.

That photo happened about a year late.

About 30 years ago was driving across SE Colorado out in middle of no where. Up ahead of me it appeared a large size dog was perched on a power pole. As I got closer realized it was a Golden Eagle. It was huge. Intimidating as hell. I regret not stopping to take a pic, but then again maybe he was hungry. LOL

Destroyed the grill and stuff in the front. Radiator seems fine. It's definitely >$2500 in damages but the truck is still drivable.

You must be new to how the government works. :D

Seriously, though, don't attach this picture to ANYTHING in social media that applies your real name to it. That's just opening the door to all kinds of unwanted grief, from internet lunatics to agencies wanting to fine you to death. Had this happened to me, I don't even know if I would have posted it here. You've already got enough shit to deal with getting your truck repaired.

Mere flesh wound!

Also that's a shame, but it's just bad luck. What can you really do to avoid such a situation?

I saw a bunch of bald Eagles smoking Cigarettes at a gas station in Ketchikan Alaska a few years ago. I said, "greetings majestic symbol of our great country and magnificent hunter." It replied, "Can I borrow some money... need about three fiddy." I said, no. "Then fu*k off!" it said as it lit up a blunt.

Never meet your heroes.
