I totally agree. They picked who they wanted, and not who was more deserving. That's cool.

To Kansas: Prove it. You've said all year that you weren't a scheduling creation. Even after you lost to the first good team you played, and didn't look particularly good doing it. Even after you failed to win your conference or even your half of your conference. Without a win against a ranked team all year, still, you say you are a BCS team.

You got a gift. Now Virginia Tech is waiting. Prove it.

It doesn't matter even when you beat them on the field, deep down, they never think anyone is better than them. Even after it's been proven.

This happened because the BCS does not exist to be fair, it exists to make the most money for the member bowl games. That's ok with me. Let's just be honest about that.

That's the only explanation, because no one can make a rational argument that this was the right call.

I agree. The BCS is all about the money. But I'm not sure what that has to do with the Orange picking KU over MU. Are you saying that somehow KU will produce more $$ than MU would? Why? I think you would have to ask the Orange selection committee to truly know.

I disagree with this too. There's even more money to be made in a playoff. More games, higher ratings, and you can still have sponsors like "Poulan Weed Eater" or whatever.

Too many college presidents of mediocre 7-5 football teams love the current system. They can tell their alumni and fanbase "Hey, we had a great season and topped it off with a trip to the Papajohns.com Bowl."

If there's a playoff, all of those teams not involved don't have their sweet (and lucrative) December vacation/football game for their alumni.

banyon 12-02-2007 07:58 PM

I wonder if USC absolutely demolished Illnois and OSU/LSU had a close, ugly game that OSU lost, if we'd have another split title?

BWillie 12-02-2007 07:58 PM

Missouri did get screwed. But so did all the other top 10 teams that didn't get to play for the National Title. Everybody on here acts like they know which team is better than who. Let's be honest, none of you all have any idea. That's why they play the games..but you can only play one game for the title....and leave the rest out to play in some meaningless games. College Football really has some explaining to do.

actually K-State was ranked when we beat them in Manhatten off of their win against Texas. If you go by your justification MU sucks for only beating a crappy KU team by 6 points.

You can still do those sh***y bowls on the side. They don't matter now, why should they matter then? It would be just like the NIT in basketball, but there's no reason you have to do away with them.

Bump 12-02-2007 08:00 PM

I say if you are in the top 12 or even 8 you are good enough to compete for the championship game. Every single season there will be griping and moaning until there is a playoff. It's not KU's fault that we got the better bowl, that's what the "experts" picked and that's how it is. MU fans really need to stop crying like a 6 year old who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas.

CupidStunt 12-02-2007 08:01 PM

The SEC is going to have a good bowl season, even if it did get screwed in the Cotton Bowl.

It's absolutely hilarious... it happened last year, too. The second the schedule came out, everyone knew which teams were going to 'be destroyed'. People have incredibly short memories.

Like, how Mizzou beat Kansas a couple of weeks ago

The credibility is there in Miami for the taking. If Kansas beats Virginia Tech, assuming you think VT is good, they can be a team that turned out to be for real, even though they benefited from a shady bowl selection. If they lose to Virginia Tech, all that anybody is going to say is "Guess we were right about them."

So... prove it.

It is what it is guys. None of this shit matters. Cry me a river about why your team didn't get in or how much of a fraud KU may indeed be, but it's not changing anything and no one on the selection committee is listening to you right now.

West Virginia was an automatic bid for winning their conference. KU was #3 in their conference. I wouldn't say KU is more deserving than WVU.

I am raging against the BCS and particularly the Orange Bowl one who sucks the peniss. AFAIK, KU didn't put a gun to their head or blackmail them to pick them.

THE KU FOOTBALL TEAM SUPERIOR TO THE MU FOOTBALL TEAM!!!!!!!!

I guess if you're going to ask an expert about average system quarterbacks... Didn't he say his average system quarterback was going to throw for 60 TDs this year? Eh...

Georgia, VT, Oklahoma, USC, and LSU all win easily. Horrible bowl selections, and the committee should be ashamed of itself.

That was almost unreal. I've never heard a college coach go out of his way to belittle a player on some other team.

And yes, the irony of him pumping up his own quarterback while criticizing another QB for being a 'system quarterback'. ROFL

I think MU turned down the Orange Bowl......

This post was taken from the Tigger board admist their melt down after losing out on the BCS bowls... Just thought some of you might get a chuckle....

Perhaps the Orange Bowl wanted us as their choice, but took Kansas as the back-up choice. Perhaps Pinkel & Alden wanted to play in Dallas, Texas where we've got a serious recruiting pipeline underway, where we can easily get lot of our fans to, where lots of our current recruits and their families can see us play, where Chase Daniel will get incredible local publicity as a hometown hero, where we get to play a name opponent that we most likely can handle, and where we can still play on New Year's day as the first game out of the gate. Other than the Orange Bowl having a bit more prestige as a BCS bowl, we will get more mileage out of the Cotton Bowl. That's why I pose the possibility that the Cotton is what Pinkel wanted.

Remember before the BCS show at 7:00 started it was rumored here that MU was accepting the Cotton Bowl. If true....................................QUIT UR ****IN BITCHIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found that it's about $17 million for the Orange and $3 million for the Cotton... but those are 'conference payouts'.

I saw one article that said a team got about $1 million of the $3 million for the Cotton Bowl last year, and the conference split the rest. Would it be the same split for all bowls?

I don't know what the ratio is, buts it would have really helped the program.

Hilarious how MU fans talk about KU's program like they know anything about college football. Suddenly, MU is elite. ROFL

FYI, there was an article earlier in the season I read that was talking about a few Florida recruits that said specifically that they had taken notice of KU. They probably would not have even considered the Jayhawks had it not been for KU going undefeated (at that time) and been on TV a lot. But you keep hoping that these things aren't true if that makes you feel better about your KU hatred.

Get over yourself. Did I say anywhere that MU was elite? NO. Top Florida recruits wouldn't come to MU based on a single Orange Bowl appearance any more than than they will KU. They will go to the major Florida/SEC schools.

Hopefully the SEC claims its 3rd title in the last 5 years. Also would like to see the SEC extend its BCS W-L record from 9-4 to 11-4.

Additionally, OSU can extend its record against the SEC in bowl games from 0-8 to 0-9. :D

You know, my first reaction was, "BS! Mizzou got hosed! etc..." - and the BCS system IS sorely lacking - but we laid an absolute egg in the Big 12 championship and I can't really blame anyone for leaving us out. We looked severely pedestrian in that game and why would they want that. Congrats to KU on your season and...until we meet again...:)

Now, LSU getting into the NC game? I'd much rather have seen Georgia in there.

Georgia didn't win the conference or their division. They shouldn't be playing for the NC.

You're the Oklahoma fan right........

You can go ahead and say whatever I don't care, just remember what happened the last time our teams played, so I can see why you wouldn't like me supporting my team to much.

I can understand that BUT...since Georgia is in the SEC, I could not think of a better opponent for them to play than Hawaii! ;)

Hawaii will own them. Bulldog on the luau! :)

Jaw-ja will eat Hawaii alive. I hope all SEC teams win their bowl games. I don't know how/why any SEC fan wouldn't.

God I hope so. Three titles would be awesome! With 5 weeks before the big game, hopefully Flynn and Dorsey will be healthy. :thumb:

You can't honestly be stupid enough to think otherwise, can you?

Well, maybe you can. :shake:

You said nothing about top Florida recruits. Your exact words were:

Nobody in Florida's going to commit to KU, no matter what they do in that game.
I called you out on that ridiculous statement.

Your right. Of course I hope all SEC teams win their bowls. It was the interview of the Georgia coach that kinda bent my halo. ;)

Now here is a fan with some sense. I disagree about the LSU/Georgia part, though. I think they got the right team to play against OSU.

Wait what.....KU doesn't recruit Florida and probably shouldn't......there's 3 huge schools there..not to mention the UCF's and USF's the whole SEC recruits that state and even SC will go down there for players...

Competing in that state isn't a good idea unless you have major pull.

This whole conversation is ridiculous. It's like the parties involved have never followed recruiting at all..which is no surprise.
