As I said before, the Chiefs were only "Texans" for 3 years. They've been the "Kansas City Chiefs" for over 40. The Chiefs were in the AFL longer than the Texans. The emblem is just a dumb idea.

Now if this whole thing was to honor the ORIGINS of the Chiefs, then you'd have an argument. BUT IT'S NOT: It's to honor the AFL. By doing this, you're telling the city and state that has supported the franchise for these many decades that the ONLY choice for a throwback uni includes a hemet emblem of another state that accounts for a tiny percentage of the franchise's history. I don't get that. We're not talking about the Tennessee Titans and Houston here. Come on now.

Hey, I'm not writing my congressman and I'm more concerned about the Chiefs winning a playoff game. Bit it's the thread topic and I think it's a stupid idea. That's all.

They were the Texans in 1960, not the Chiefs. How ****ing hard is that to understand? People are making a huge deal over basically nothing.

Now if they were keeping the Texas helmets for good, it'd be a big deal. So for 3 games they'll be known as the Kansas City Texas. Who the **** cares?

My, aren't you testy. FYI, Hotel Street has been cleaned up a lot, it really isn't bad at all now.

The Chiefs have had essentially the same uniform since moving to KC. The logo is a little smaller on the helmets is the only change. Might as well not do it at all if we are just going to put a slightly larger emblem on the helmets. I think it is a great idea to wear the Texans uniforms. Hell, the Donks are wearing their much hated original uniforms, that is much worse than us having Texas on the helmet.

For the record, I've never liked Texas. But that is irrelevant here.

You appear to feel threatened by this, which sounds like an inferiority complex to me. Why else would you see it as an insult?

Hell, those 3 games they'll still be known as the Kansas City Chiefs, they aren't changing their name. They're just wearing the old uniform. It is less than no big deal. It amazes me to see so many on here butthurt over this.

He's got a relevant point.

The thing that bugs me about it, is that the Raiders will be the Oakland Raiders, The Broncos will be the Denver Broncos, the Chargers will be the San Diego Chargers, and who will WE BE again?

C'mon, you have to find that just a little unsettling, yes? Two of those three games are going to be against division rivals, at least ONE of them on the road.
Do YOU wanna' go to any of those three stadiums and sit through THAT verbal shitstorm?

That said, can't say I'm crazy about having its likeness on my team's helmet.

Not threatened at all. Not feeling inferior to Texas either. And not so testy. However, I am extremely envious of you and all the lucky people inhabiting the greatest place on Earth.

So why do you think it's a great idea to wear the Texan uniforms? What is great about it? [BTW, the Donks originated in Denver, so it's not really the same argument.]

I'd love to go to SD and watch if that is where they wear them. I'd NEVER go to Oakland no matter what, I value my life too much (I used to live in the Bay Area in the 80s, when the Faders were in LA, but even then it was dangerous to wear a Chiefs jersey or hat anywhere in the BA). Those Fader fans are psycho.

I mean really if the uniforms a team wears to honor the past offend people that much because it happened in another market your inferiority complex is overtaking your judgment.

I think wearing throwback uniforms is a great way to celebrate 50 years, but there is no point in wearing '60s Chiefs uniforms since they are essentially the same as now. And at least we don't have to wear the ugly brown and yellow that Denver has to wear.

I used to go to Chiefs/Raider games in oakland every year in my Chiefs gear. Though, i would cover up in the stadium hallways. I seen some bad things happen to Chiefs fans in there. Most people though, talk a big game and wont do shit. I have had to step up to some fans as well, they will back down, but you do got some drunk knuckle head that wont and him and his friends will have a field day on you. lol

I am hoping to start going again in a few years. Live is nice and all, but i am the only Chiefs fan with all m y friends which are Raider fans. lol

We really should just daisy-cutter Oakland in to oblivion. Doesn't the Golden Gate run from SF to Oakland?

Yeah, I lived in Sunnyvale for most of the 80s. I worked with one guy who was a Chiefs fan, and it was us against about 20 Raiders fans. :doh!: Luckily the 49ers were great then, so a lot of people there were Niner fans, and they hated the Raiders as much as us.

I remember one year there was a preseason game in Oakland against the Niners. It was kind of a big deal since the Raiders were in LA at the time. A lot of Niner fans went, and there were numerous reports of Raider fans assaulting them - even though they aren't rivals and aren't even in the same conference. There was one instance of a Raider fan throwing a beer on a man who was with his 8 year old son. Classy bunch those Raider fans are....

I was threatened a couple of times when I wore a Chiefs hat.

Maybe there is a point in wearing the only marginally different 60's uniforms. As in, "Hey, we didn't have to jack with with our uniforms over the years because they're inherently classy and timeless." [Unlike the Donks.] What's wrong with that? Maybe you add AFL patches and/or something to honor Lamar, as they did after he died.

Whatever. You have your opinion and I have mine. Hopefully, we'll be talking about a Chiefs' playoff victory next January.

The state of Texas on the side of a Kansas City Chiefs helmet is a slap in the face to the fans after the citizens of KC spent $300+ million to refurbish the stadium.

They should have known how this would be viewed by many fans.

Coach 03-25-2009 06:20 AM

Let's all be aware that the NFL (in my view) is honoring the AFL Origins.

And besides, it's just only three games.

This may be the most ignorant attitude ever voiced on this BB...A monumental achievement.

You do get, don't you, that the unis are being worn to honor the origins of the team, not to honor the state of Texas? Is that distinction too fine for a mind as coarse as yours?

Sweet mercy, I can't believe people as stupid as you manage to walk around outside every day.

MahiMike 03-25-2009 06:25 AM

That seals it! Whenever a team changes unis they win. Bucs, Vikes, etc.

It's a done deal!

milkman 03-25-2009 07:09 AM

Wow.

Just wow.

All this over a throwback uniform that's only going to be worn three times.

Classic.

I think a much bigger slap in the face to Chiefs fans would be the Missouri silhouette, seeing as how a large portion of the fan base is in Kansas.

gblowfish 03-25-2009 08:02 AM

I'm not too bent about this. The goal is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the AFL. The Chiefs were not founded in KC, they were founded in Dallas. So, if all the teams are going to wear uni's from their first AFL season, this makes sense. The Tennessee Titans are going to wear Houston Oilers gear, and the Jets are going to wear New York Titans Gear, so go figure.

Here's a very cool website that has helmets over the history of the NFL and AFL. I really like the old Washington Redskins Maroon Helmets with the spear. Florida State totally ripped that off:

Not correct. The article says that they are wearing uniforms from their inaugural seasons in 1960. The Chiefs won three AFL championships, so by your premise they could wear uniforms from 1966 or 1969.

The only single reason the white on whites are ever discussed to be brought back, last year or this year, is because that was Lamar's favorite uniform. It's out of respect....

Agreeing with mecca on this (see it is possible!!!) I wonder if Tennessee folks are pissed about wearing the houston oilers old uniforms, if not it's probably because no other team is currently called the oilers, and oil can be found in tennessee.
