Well, people are quantifying evil in terms of lives taken. Truman, through the use of nuclear weapons took in excess of 200,000 lives, the majority of which were civilian. However, you could qualify that by saying japanese civilians were warriors and that ultimately it saved nearly as many american lives simply through the use of the bomb. I'm just running with the standards of the board here though.

In that case Roosevelt took FAR more lives than Truman ever thought of. Hell throw Curtis LeMay in there also.

And in Truman's defense, he actually saved far more lives by dropping the bomb than would have been lost in continuing Fire Bombing raids & or the invasion of Japan.

crazycoffey 09-01-2009 01:23 PM

Interesting. LeMay had the nick name "Demon LeMay" in japan. I think we have a winner!

mmmm....maybe. Several hundred men, women and children were killed. It's about on par with Wounded Knee though. I guess it depends on what degree of latitude you give for being "at war". I wouldn't be inclined to give too much, so you could definitely make a case for it depending on the standards you want to apply.

John Wesley Hardin is an (obviously) distant cousin by marriage. I'm fascinated that he was one of "us." I've enjoyed reading about him. I guess I should be ashamed to admit that he's a member of our family.

There's a big difference between comprehending history and being some fact-vomiting moron. I have never defended Capone - I just stated a FACT, that he did do things for people that had positive benefits. Looking back as a close-minded, judgmental douche from 2009, you say SO WHAT HE WAS EVIL, but I try to look at history from multiple vantages, and if I was, say, an unemployed Chicagoan from 1930 kept alive by Capone's soup kitchen, I'm not going to mind the other shit he does quite so much, nor will I care about his motives. I'm quite sure the 1930 guy wouldn't give a crap what you thought about his benefactor, and since Capone lived in 1930 and not 2009, who are you to dismiss his opinion out of hand?

I also loved the way you judged Cole Younger in Shithead's thread. Never mind the fact that Younger's PRO-UNION father was murdered by a Union officer over a personal slight - the teenage Younger was just EVIL because he rode with Confederate guerillas. You judge people who lived in another time by modern standards and think you know what's going on? Horseshit. You're a fool.

And since you are a fool, I'll be as condescending as I want. Spare this. 4321

Have a nice day.

LMAO

Frazod 09-01-2009 10:07 PM

I've been doing some comparisons between Adolf Hitler and Al Capone.

Hitler was in power for 12 years. He ruled Germany, and later all of Europe, with an iron fist.

Capone was in charge of the Chicago mob for 7 years. He ruled the south side of Chicago, and later the Loop, with an iron first.

Hitler was response for over 20,000,000 deaths.

Capone was responsible for.... a few dozen deaths. But he always had an alibi.

Hitler tried to exterminate all the Jews in Europe.

Capone tried to exterminate Bugs Moran and half a dozen or so members of his gang.

Hitler conquered all of continental Europe and a good chunk of Russia.

Capone conquered.... the suburb of Cicero. Sort of.

Hitler was finally defeated by the combined armies of America, Russia, England and France.

Capone was defeated by... the IRS. And syphilis.

:hmmm:

You know, I wouldn't have nearly as much trouble with this comparison if Capone had at least conquered Milwaukee.

Sweet Daddy Hate 09-01-2009 10:17 PM

Oh IT'S ON NOW, BITCHES!
