Some have said that he couldn't sit either, but if there was an excercise bike in the room for his use, wouldln't that have allowed him to sit?

sportsman1 12-30-2009 04:54 PM

If he was cut there is no doubt Craig James would have cried foul and the same result would have happened. It is really unprofessional that ESPN through all of this continues to give him a forum.

So what you're telling us is that Leach had no choice, right?

Why did he even sign a contract extension?

Why didn't he just quit?

Wow, poor Mike Leach!

Texas Tech went too far in its firing of Mike Leach

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont....2cf78a00.html

For the record: Craig James didn’t get Mike Leach fired. Neither did his son or ESPN or anyone else on the periphery of Texas Tech’s football program.

He won, graduated his players, didn’t attract the attention of the NCAA and still managed to generate controversy. In short, he was a lot like a basketball coach Tech once employed.
The difference between Leach’s situation and Bob Knight’s was that Gerald Myers liked Knight.

Leach told the trainer to clean out the room of anything that he would be able to sit or lean on to be sure that didn't happen.

There isn't a judge or jury in the United States of America that will condone Leach's actions in this case.

Not one.

It's not a judge or jury's job to condone it. It's their job to determine if he violated the letter of his contract. From what we know and can assume, they won't have to condone anything, but they also won't have a hard time finding that he didn't violate his contract.

You know what the end result of "condoning" his actions would be, which is exactly why I stated it wouldn't happen.

You guys must not have read or heard about this:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...coaching-power

"In many ways, Leach hung himself. There were no terms of endearment when he constantly looked at other jobs and fought the administration over a salary extension. The man is as quirky, though, as he is brilliant. Having an academically deficient player study in freezing weather at the 50-yard line isn't weird, it's inhumane. Humiliating quarterback Taylor Potts was demeaning. Leach told Potts that his first name was not masculine enough and changed the player's jersey to read "Nick."
Still, he got away with all of it until the James family complained. It doesn't matter what some Red Raiders think of Adam James' character or that his father Craig James might be a "helicopter dad." Abuse, even the perception of it, is a problem.

Yeah, coaching is different -- blah, blah, blah. But real life has to figure in there somewhere and a $4 million contract doesn't give you the keys to a university."

Leach sounds like a power-mad assshole.

Just like Mangino wasn't really fired for poking a player in the chest with his finger, Leach wasn't really fired for making one player stand in a shed.

He was fired because he has continuously pissed off his employers, and they (1) decided they'd had enough of his shit, and (2) had an excuse to fire him.

What makes you think that Leach has a winnable case. There might be a settlement but if this was a case that was litigated, I think Leach would have much less chance of winning than Texas Tech would.

As an employer for 28 years, I agree that it is seldom 1 act that gets you fired, but more often a series of acts. And the final act is not so much a serious "crime", but the final straw or an act that we employers think will stand up in court as a terminatable offense.

We'll disagree

You claimed that you did participate in sports. Even at a lower level (high school football I believe you said) if a player cannot participate in practice are they not generally to be at practice anyway if opportunity presents?

So he was doing the kid a favor? When Warren Moon was with the Vikings, he was caught up in a domestic dispute with his wife wherein he choked her. She had the bruises on her neck to prove it. His defense was that he was choking her "to help calm her down because she was acting irrational". This almost seems like the same defense.

Wilson8 12-31-2009 01:13 AM

There are several Texas Tech players that are now coming out in support of James and against Leach.

Wilson8 12-31-2009 01:20 AM

Defensive lineman Chris Perry, to ESPN: "I have no complaints about this decision. (Leach) put Adam in a shed like an animal. Like an animal in a cage. That was bull," . "You call other players. I think it was a good decision. We have our pep back now. We practice hard this week. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he's gone."

Cornerback Taylor Charbonnet, to ESPN: "The players make this team, not one coach. As Adam's friend, I didn't like it at all what [Leach] did. He was my brother and I didn't agree with it. I don't know why [Leach] did that. But I know we our fully behind [interim] coach Ruffin [McNeil]. We love him and support him."

sportsman1 12-31-2009 01:30 AM

Perry is also a nobody on the team. KCBD in Lubbock is reporting that there were players that wanted to sit out the bowl game in protest. Regardless.. I"m done with the soap Oprah for the night. Headed to SA in the morning.

Go.

It's ludicrous to fire any coach over circumstances like this. The kid is obviously an underacheiver, and it was reported that he had shown contempt for the coaching staff in the past, telling them that they didn't know "how to coach". His being segregated is the lightest punishment I think could be doled out, and it was only after he whined about the sunlight bothering him that it was done.

The kid is a pussy straight up. Everyone wants more playing time. The way to go about getting more is to work harder, not to sulk and complain to his daddy. Leach was doing something for him that his father apparently never did. Try to make a man of him, and make him accountable for his own actions.

Leach's firing had nothing to do with this incident. The administration already had it out for him, and this was just an excuse to act on it.

And if I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Football is NOT for pussies, and weak minded individules. On any level. It's a combat sport, and thats why certain people find it to be offensive to their delicate sensibilites. These people should probably look into baseball as their primary source of sports entertainment. It's a gentlemans game.

Trust me, when my trip is booked, I'll let you know. It'll be this Spring, March, April or May.

I'll relish our time together, Buster.

LMAO

I have all my teeth. I can assure you it's not by accident. I doubt you have the balls to show your face anywhere, but we'll see. I wouldn't bet one of your millions on it. The way you run your cocktrap, I doubt you would either.

No dupe here, and EVERYONE knows your kind.

Like I said, I'll believe it when you're standing there with that dumbass look on your face.

We'll see who's laughing this spring when something suddenly "comes up".

You're a pussy. Deal with it. You don't have the guts to show until proven otherwise.

Go change your tampon and go to bed.

Your Geritol is wearing off.

You're a mouthy **** whose insults are wearing thin, proving your lack of intelligence.

As if you're not already, you'll be an additional laughingstock when you no-show.

No problem, Douche****.

A douchey old 46 year old who peaked in high school?

LMAO

It's nice of you to come around and pick on kids 20 years younger than you though.

It really shows your maturity level and how much you'd advanced and accomplished in your life.

LMAO

If I were your offspring, I'd move to Antarctica.

Dickhole.

You should comment on the starting center who essentially said Mike Leach doesn't know how to deal with people and is basically a dipshit.

Jesus Dane...

You're slipping. The last 20 posts in this thread are insane.

All I can say is...you're lucky that SOMEHOW people envy you on this site...I don't get it, really...you're about as much of a poser as anything I've ever seen...

Picking a real life fight with someone on a message board?

Hysterical.

All I can say is wow...

But somehow no one calls you out because somehow people think you're a cool guy...amazing how people can turn a blind eye to the constant dumbass posts you make...

People call me out for making "dumbass" posts all the time...but I have a feeling that if they replaced the DaneMcCloud with Hootie and went back and looked at my post history for a few months they'd be like..."god that guy is a total dickbag piece of shit...I wish he'd just go away!"

Give the kid a break. 4 days ago he was going to see his team play in a bowl game, party like a rock star over new years break, all was good.
Now his football program went from up high to down low, his goofy-ass coach is fired (though he brought it on himself) and he's taking it hard.

That's utter non-sense. When you are in the NFL or working as a security guard or whatever your future holds, the teams coach will still be there building the next edition of the team by recruiting the guy who's going to take your spot.
