vailpass 10-30-2012 02:32 PM

So she found the Jimmy look alike as a means of admitting to herself and putting closure to the fact that Jimmy is dead?

Or what? I'm not clear on the angle here.

Not sure I want to be.

Bitch is going to link up with Gyp to go after Nucky.

Aries Walker 10-30-2012 03:46 PM

I think the goal was to kill someone who looked like Jimmy, so he can be declared dead and she can inherit the house. It seems, though, that she also let herself enjoy the look-alike for a while as well.

Harrow will realize that it's not Jimmy, of course, but he has no reason to say anything.

True, Harrow keeps pretty much on the DL.

I liked this scene:
Harrow: "let go of the boy right now"
Bitter Dad: "what will you do if I don't?"
Harrow: "I'll kill you"
Bitter Dad (let's go of kid)

Then later the daughter told Harrow she didn't like it when he told her dad he'd kill him if he didn't let go of the boy.
He answers "I was only trying to look like a tough guy".
No. No you weren't.

Aries Walker 10-30-2012 05:31 PM

That's precisely what I was thinking.

Art Vader 10-30-2012 05:58 PM

Nucky knows that's not Jimmy. Maybe he can manipulate that situation without implicating himself to stick it to her? .. that is if he cares enough to bother. Definitely thickened the plot.

I really like the Gyp character, no matter how messed up he is lol...
Gyp in the church was classic.

Seeing how Gyp's home life is gives some insight as to why he is so batshit mean and crazy.
BTW, were those sheep eye's he was plucking out and eating at dinner?

I like Bobby Cannavale very much as an actor, but I feel like the Gyp character is somewhat overdone. Almost feels like he drifts into caricature territory at times.

Having said that, I don't see this ending well for Gyp and the Italians.

I'd venture that somehow Richard finds himself in Nucky's employ and plays a role in the forthcoming war before the end of the season.

Agreed, Gyp is interesting but at times the character is overdone which interrupts the suspension of disbelief.

I hope Richard remains an independent, I like that role for him. But I won't be surprised if the situation you describe, or one similar, occurs.

I'm looking forward to seeing van Alden embracing his inner badass.

Well the history books document that Nucky died of old age and was the power in AC for decades. Rothstein was murdered in 1928 over failure to pay a poker debt in a game that he said was fixed. What year is it the series?

Aries Walker 11-01-2012 06:19 PM

This does not strike me as a show which is going to bend over backwards to be historically accurate. That said, I don't see them waxing either Nucky or Rothstein any time soon.

I love the show - but I agree.

For some reason, I felt like the last episode dropped all the momentum from the previous.

I wish Magaret would just run off the Owen and get it over with.

Gyp in his general hat made me laugh. I like that they make him batshit crazy but sometimes they go overboard to the point where they remind me I'm watching a TV show.

I thought it was pretty predictable. They spent the whole show setting it up. I knew what it was as soon as the guy told Nucky there was a delivery. Actually, I thought a lot of the big surprises were quite predictable. (Gyp beating the dude to death with the shovel, Jess turning the gun on himself, and Owen Slater in the crate) Still, it's nuts that they will kill off huge characters like that.

Yes, I've felt the story with Harrow building. I knew he was going to go off sooner or later. And I loved it when he did. He's killed 63 men. Now he's up to about.......? I assume he'll be Nucky's main man next season.

Nucky should have it good at the start of next season. Rothstein should be in jail. Rosetti is dead. He has Chalky White's crew and Al Capone's crew on his side. He'll have the huge still in PA back and producing. He should have Harrow as his new hitman and his brother as his right hand man. But, we all know the crap will hit the fan....

I knew something would happen with Harrow. It's been building up for a while. So, what happens with Agent Van Alden? Something big will happen with him next season. And Lucky Luciano too. I think he'll take a more prominant role in the story next season too. He's been putting in his time. His character (who was a realy gangster, by the way) is ready to take a step forward and become a big time player.....IMHO.

I think Luciano will take over the power vacuum left over after Rothstein is arrested. I thought the scene in Rothstein's office was great and I love how calculating Meyer Lansky is too, guys kind of creepy but very intelligent.

Question...how/why did Eli take it upon himself to hook up with Al Capone in the first place? Also why did Capone/Chalky take out Masseria's men?

Someone mentioned it above, but the line at the end of the 2nd to last episode was awesome.

Nope, she showed them when she first started boning Nucky.

This season was amazing.. the closer was a slight drop off from the 2 previous episodes, but this is probably my favorite show of all time, and was a welcome addition to the painful Chiefs Sundays endured this year.

Sopranos was great but I prefer the historic vibe of BE... they do a fantastic job with the look/production of this show. Most of the same people worked on both shows, and they are definitely the best in the business and have a uniquely balls-out writing style.

I think Van Alden will surely become absorbed into the Chicago gangland... the little grin he showed when he had those people terrified behind the glass was awesome and I can see him becoming more comfortable with his aggressive side and making a fine henchman.

Harrow is a warrior.. I think it was easy to know what he was going to do but it was refreshing to finally see it go down (was hoping he'd kill Gillian also). He's my favorite character simply from a mystique/ standpoint... no telling what is in his future. He's a killing machine though and I'm sure Nucky will find out about his rampage and tap him for something.

I always thought Nucky's assistant Eddie would end up saving his life by killing an assassin while hiding in the curtains or something, but he totally didn't.. I guess there's still time for that.

Doyle has 9 lives for sure, hoping he gets taken out season 4 ep 1, but will probably make it the whole way as a dumb-luck character.

Ol' Barney Google could've gone out in a flashier way lol... but I'll take it. Awesome one-shot character.

Esther Randolph will do much more running naked through the pages of the US criminal code..

Lucciano should start to become the big cheese at some point after he takes out Masseria, along with a bigger role for Bugsy Siegel.

Can't wait to go back and watch them all in order! I bet it kills at all the awards shows.

Epic.

I agree. "Lucky" Luciano will become a much bigger player in some way next season. I don't know how, but he will. And we will probably find out how he gets the name "Lucky".

Maybe there is more to it, but Eli hooked up with Al Capone out of necessity. Just like Mickey Doyle took it upon himself to call Rothstein.

They took out Masseria's men because they could. They killed three birds with one stone that day. They weakened Masseria and sent him a messasge too.

One of the best closing lines ever......

I don't think the finale was a drop off, just a good progression through the end of the season.

The Sopranos is still #1, but B.E. is a close 2nd.

Something big will happen with Van Alden. Mentally, he seems to be on the razor's edge. I think he could snap and horrible violence could ensue.

Harrow could remain a free agent. But, I think he'll hook up with Nucky. Either way, his body count of 63, which went up to 71 (by my count), will continue to rise next season. He is one of my favorite characters too. I hope things work out between him and that woman, but it probably won't.

Eddie did save Nucky's life, didn't he? Didn't he shout "Nucky!" and when Nucky turned around Eddie had shot a guy coming through the door? Am I remembering that correctly?

I can't stand Mickey Doyle. But, he does add comic relief. He will probably last thru the final episode of the final season.

Bugsy Siegel? You think they will introduce a new character next season? Wasn't Bugsy Siegel involved in the founding of Las Vegas? Was he an east coast gangster?

Yes, he did warn Nucky that someone else was coming through the door. I believe that is the bullet that got him.

Actually, Bugsy has been introduced already. He works with Luciano and Lansky running Heroin. Masseria sends guys to beat Siegel outside of Lucky Luciano's place. Lansky shoots the guy in the head and Siegel runs after the car shooting at it and vowing to kill them.

Then he wants a bigger role afterwards and Lansky says no.

Who knows what they'll do with these characters. I love Al Capone, Chalky and Richard Harrow. I am hoping that Margeret is out of the picture now, because the who dynamic between her and Nucky was a weak part of the storyline I thought.

I'll kind of miss Rosetti though, he was a friggin nutbag, but was hell of a good character.

The peak to me was in the 2nd to last episode.. this last one was just a good cap on the whole season. I'll have to watch it again, but the last episode was more revealing than engaging to me.

I think it will work out between Harrow and his lady friend... I don't think they'd spend so much time working on that plot-line if it would just not work out, but who knows.. I'm sure whatever happens will be dramatic.

You're right, Eddie did help save Nucky's life, but I was expecting it in a more hands-on fashion.

Benny Siegel aka "Bugsy", although I don't think they've referred to him as anything other than Benny in the series, is the young hothead who rolls with Lansky/Lucciano, he's the one who almost assassinated Gyp in Tabor Heights. He'd be the perfect craziness factor to replace Gyp next season, unless they do it with a new face which is also a probability.
He started East Coast and made his way west to do all the Vegas/Hollywood stuff later on.

The only thing that kind of bothers me about the finale...

The guy that kills Rosetti hides in the closet. Eli and Nucky find him, they turn him against Rosetti and tell him to kill him, I get that part. But I don't understand how the other two guys didn't try to stop or at least take out the guy that kills Rosetti?

How would that guy have told those guys what was about to happen before hand? He meets them there and says "I hid in the closet" so you think he just shows up out of the blue and kills Rosetti and they let him just walk away?

Clarity would be helpful!!

I'm thinking Nucky told Mickey to call Rothstein.
The play within the play, that's the thing.

I thought so too, because when Nucky hung up he said "A big piece of bait, will catch a big mouse".
