Latest GFS model has KC in a more 12-14 range,

If anything just expect Ice and roughy 6 inches, but its capable of a lot more if this verifies.

tk13 01-30-2011 12:31 PM

I think that's right... every weather person I've seen on facebook and twitter is talking about this system. Don't know if it'll be quite that bad but it's apparently a beast. I guess one of the computer models this morning said on it's current forecast track, Chicago would get 38 inches of snow.

carlos3652 01-30-2011 12:32 PM

http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/wwd/day3_psnow_gt_12.gif

Probability of greater than 12 inches, is 10% for KC 40% for parts of MO.

its trending to a big event. Like i said, wouldnt be surprised with a 4-12 range in the metro proper with bigger amounts to the East.

* SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS...A LIGHT GLAZE OF ICE UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH WILL BE POSSIBLE ON MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT. STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN 8 AND 12 INCHES MAY BE POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING WITH HIGHER TOTALS IN SOME LOCATIONS.

* IMPACTS...THIS STORM WILL ARRIVE IN MULTIPLE WAVES. FREEZING DRIZZLE OR LIGHT FREEZING RAIN WILL LEAD TO ICY CONDITIONS ON PRIMARY AND SECONDARY ROADS BY THE MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE. ONCE HEAVY SNOW ARRIVES...ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED AND TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT TO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ON TUESDAY. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BRING TRAVEL TO A HALT OVER MUCH OF EASTERN KANSAS AND MISSOURI ON TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.

* OTHER IMPACTS...STRONG WINDS BETWEEN 20 AND 35 MPH TUESDAY AFTERNOON WILL CREATE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW ALONG WITH HIGHLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE ON INTERSTATE 35...HIGHWAY 71...AND HIGHWAY 50. FALLING TEMPERATURES TUESDAY NIGHT WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILL READINGS WELL BELOW ZERO BY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS.

CONDITIONS CAN DETERIORATE RAPIDLY IN WINTER WEATHER SITUATIONS. SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN TRAVELING. PRACTICE YOUR WINTER SAFETY RULES...KEEP A FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...FOOD AND WATER IN YOUR CAR IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS DURING THIS STILL DEVELOPING WINTER STORM. IF YOU ARE TRAVELING TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT...BEGIN TO MAKE ALTERNATIVE PLANS NOW.

TrebMaxx 01-30-2011 04:08 PM

I am not looking forward to this. Here is the warning for Central MO.

Statement as of 3:56 PM CST on January 30, 2011

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 am Monday to noon CST
Wednesday...

The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for snow... sleet and... and freezing rain... which is in
effect from 6 am Monday to noon CST Wednesday. The Winter Storm
Watch is no longer in effect.

* Timing... a wintry mix of light freezing rain... sleet and snow
will develop by Monday morning and continue in waves through
Monday evening. The wintry mix will change to snow late Monday
night and become heavy at times Tuesday and Tuesday night.

* Accumulations... snow accumulations of of 12 to 18 inches are likely.
Ice accumulations will range from less than 1/10 of an inch in
northeast Missouri to around 2/10 of an inch in parts of central
Missouri.

* Winds... northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will occur Tuesday
night and Wednesday with gusts to 40 mph.

* Impacts... extremely hazardous Road conditions could limit travel
for days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means that 6 inches or more of snow is
expected. The rapid accumulation of snow will make travel
extremely difficult... if not impossible. If travel is necessary...
make sure to exercise caution. Begin your travel with a tank full
of gas... and carry a winter storm kit which includes a shovel...
flashlight... cellphone... and blankets of extra warm clothing.

Strong and gusty winds will combine with snow already on the
ground to produce blowing and drifting that will frequently reduce
visibilities to one-quarter mile or less at times. Snow on grassy
areas will likely blow over roadways... partially covering or
further blanketing the pavement. Snow drifts will likely form near
structures such as homes... cars... or trees and could become
significantly deeper than in areas exposed to the wind and away
from structures. As a result... travel will become hazardous and
motorists should plan for a slower than normal trip... and be on
the lookout for sudden drops in visibility as well as drifting
snow that may impede travel.

lol...yeah right, that would suck! Kids would love it though.

GloryDayz 01-30-2011 09:02 PM

And I get to try to fly out tomorrow. JFC!!! This is three trips in a row that I'll bet will be F'd up by the weather! Let me guess, nobody will show up early in the AM to "warm up" the insides of the plane (Yeah, that one's on Delta), and nobody will check the deicing truck tonight to make sure they're ready to go in the AM (that one's on Delta and American Airlines)... Oh, and for that American Airlines ground crew that doesn't notice the "leak in the nose cone" while the plane is on the ground for 2 hours --- KMA, you suck! I'll start whining now, because when it all starts tomorrow, they'll all claim it's all about safety and not that they don't know how to F'n plan ahead!! Airline folks are pretty-much all bums! And the TSA a$$holz are worse!!

What really ticks me off is that I have a dental appt Tuesday morning that was rescheduled from the last snow storm we had. I'm going to be pissed if I show up at their office the the hygienist is way late or can't make it in.

By the way, you have to hope I can make it in tomorrow night. Those roads are going to be a bitch.

Wow....not looking forward to this....This is about 1 hr. south of Sunny and 70* Olathe.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... OF 9 TO 14 INCHES ARE LIKELY ACROSS SOUTHEAST KANSAS FROM MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ARE NOW FORECAST FOR THOSE PARTS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS ALONG AND EAST OF I-135.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS... AROUND ONE QUARTER INCH ARE POSSIBLE FROM THE FREEZING DRIZZLE LATE TONIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING.

* WINDS... WILL INCREASE FROM THE NORTH BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH ARE LIKELY TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.

* IMPACTS... THE FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL RESULT IN LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ON EXPOSED SURFACES AND UNTREATED ROADS. HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL MAKE DRIVING DANGEROUS FROM MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT. THE STRONG NORTH WINDS MAY RESULT IN A BLIZZARD TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT WITH NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES. DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS OF 10 BELOW TO 20 BELOW ARE LIKELY BY TUESDAY NIGHT.

So I live in Maryland, and we're getting predictions of sleet and freezing rain from tomorrow night straight through until Wednesday.

The thing about Maryland is that any amount of snow, let alone freezing rain which is far worse, turns every driver here into a paranoid, petrified buffoon. The place is over-reaction central. Earlier this year, they shut down schools for two days for one inch of snow.

And now we're getting ice for three days. **** it, I'm staying home.
