So a human captures and enslaves a wild dog. Another human decides to put it with a bunch of other slave dogs in an open display so people can see it. (The entire value of this display being that it is, in fact, a wild dog) A PHENOMENALLY STUPID human drops her kid in with the dogs. They do what they are programmed by years of evolution to do, and it gets killed. That's cool? Don't get me wrong, I'd kill it in an instant if I thought there was any chance of saving that kid, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a shame the dog died. Doesn't compare to the tragedy of the kid's death of course, but it still sucks. Also, I don't know what their plans are, but I hope none of the other offending dogs are killed for this.

BTW, I agree with another poster that investigation should be made to determine if this mother is actually this stupid or if this was somehow intentional. It seems crazy, but I don't know if it's any crazier than this level of idiocy.

Several years back I was watching animal planet....it was a special on these dogs. They cornered a wildebeast and about 10 of them went for its belly. They shredded through its abdomen like tissue paper. The wildebeasts guts and intestins were on the ground while the wildebeast was still trying to get away. These dogs are spawns from satan!

I'm not super brave or anything, I just love my kids so much I'd die fighting for them. after reading a lot of these posts I realize it's a foolish and probably fatal decision to go in, but split second decision and it's my kid...I'm going in, not a doubt about it.

Good on ya. Again, it's the "fight or flight" thing. If you're carrying, then it's an entire different dynamic. A few loud cracks from a gun are probably going to disperse the animals and maybe it's a different story.

Now I know this isn't exactly smart, and it's not what most of us would probably do. At the same time - that happens at zoos. That's something you'd often see a parent do, especially if the kid can't see the dogs underneath. Now I think my parents (or me personally, had I any children) would probably just try to lift the kid up and hold him there, but this is a woman and isn't going to have the upper body strength.

So what did she do? Well, the nearest substitute - hoisted him up and set him down. She probably had her hands there ready to catch him if he bobbled...and didn't get it done. Our parents likely did extremely similar things at points during our infant/toddler years.

As you start to look at this a little more and listen to interviews from neighbors, etc...; this really does appear to be a pretty doting parent that just made a very poor judgment call, but not a judgment call that we haven't seen before in public settings. And I can't imagine she knew that these were essentially the most savage damn things in the world, so it didn't even occur to her to be hyper-cautious here. If those were lions, I'm betting you don't see her try to do this because you have your radar up.

I think I'm just going to chalk this up as a pretty damn horrific accident. But for the grace of God go many of you.
