This was proven when Herm's philosophy of RRPP, good defense, and kicking field goals always lost to the Elite QB's with heavy passing attacks.

Um Actually that is Harbaughs whole philosophy, He won at Stanford with it and turned the Niners around with it.

Really? Drew Bledsoe did.

Drew Brees did to phillip rivers.

Joe Freaking Montana did to Steve Young.

Kurt Warner lost his job to Eli Manning when he had the Giants 5-3 and in the playoff hunt.

Alex Smith lost his job coming off the best game of his career while leading the league in rating, completion percentage and being 6th in the espns reeruned logic of qbr.

It defintely is not as uncommon as people make it.

No you cant win. Aaron Rodgers, elite, Drew Brees Elite, Tom Brady, Elite, Peyton Manning, elite.

None played in the super bowl this year. None has won a super bowl in the last 3 years. Tom Brady hasnt won since 2005?

I do not care what YOU WANT. Clearly Andy Reid, and John Dorsey understand what Alex Smith brings to the team, and WANT what he brings.

Geno should get decent numbers if MJD stays healthy. A good running game, and two young up-and-coming receivers in Shorts III and Blackmon.

And it's highly likely that Marcedes Lewis' production decline was a direct result of the shithole that is Blame Crappert.

Hey Hey Hey, we are not talking about Kap. Sometimes a player just comes along. When nobody saw it, someone did. Harbaugh knew he was waiting to unleash that beast. He saw the opportunity and took it. I wont even try to compare kap to smith. but yes, he stuck with his philosophy. Harbaugh will always be a run first power offense. Learned it from Bo Schembechler and will not change. Apples and oranges buddy

Usually those who "win" Free Agency in the Spring sputter and stall out by October when the finger pointing starts and the sports media starts picking at the seams for a good story.

No, The miami dolphins are winning free agency, and in the process, are going to probably finish just ahead of the jets.

THe chiefs are spending smartly, thats why it is said they are winning. If you just look at the moves they are making, they arent flashy HIGH PRICED SIGNINGS. THey are efficient reliable play makers.

Finding the positive side of things is great for sucking off a boss, or making a relationship work. But when it comes to your team, it's ok to question things.

It's ok to piss and moan about the negatives. Take your boy scout bullshit approach back to your moms basement. None of us give a a flying monkey shit about your positive outlook on life, or man crush on mediocrity.

I don't really care about his first few years in the league and I don't think they represent what he is now as a player. I think his last three years are a better indicator of what kind of player he is. I by no means think he's great or a long term answer for our QB position but I do think if he puts up a 95 plus QB rating this year we'll win alot of games and probably make the playoffs. We might win a playoff game too.

Of course I wanted Geno and wasn't happy with what we gave up but I'm excited to see what Pederson and Reid are able to do with Smith...not to mention we're surrounding him with playmakers. Absolutely.....especially Considering Alex Smith will never EVER even have a season as good as Trint's best season......

The Franchise 03-13-2013 01:36 PM

The best we can hope for Alex (and it's asking a lot) is for him to have numbers comparable to Bree's last season in SD.

3576 yards
24 TDs
15 INTs
64.6% completion

That comes out to 223 yards, 1.5 TDs and .9 INTs per game.

Not so much a player comparison on a numbers level more to do with the situation. People say Alex Smith is Cassel 2.0 another back up QB and that's not accurate. He was a starter in college and every year he's been in the NFL. Kinda like Brees. He's also gotten better every year. We traded for him like we did Trent Green who would have been the starter in St Louis if not for Rodney Harrison. He was like a #2 starter more then a back up. Anyway Smith is kind of a combination of those things. I certainly don't think anyone believes that Alex Smith can put up Drew Brees like numbers. He could put up Trent Green type numbers though.

Edit:And he has won a playoff game which is something the Chiefs haven't had on their roster since Montana.

2003 numbers. 24 TDs and 12 INTs. He can match that and maybe with less INTs. He probably won't pass for 4000 yards though but he can match a 92.6 rating. If Reid and Smith mesh and our O line plays decent I could see Alex Smith with over 3000 yards and more importantly the 24 TDs and say about 10 INTs. If he stays healthy.
