Yup RT @albertbreer Oakland and Kansas City are vying for free-agent CB Sean Smith. Seems Miami is out of it, for now.

****a you Oakland

silver5liter 03-14-2013 11:43 AM

We got him

IMO they should talk to Eric Berry about an extension. His cap number is like 10 million and he is only under contract two more years.

penbrook 03-14-2013 11:44 AM

Its official we signed sean smith

I just want to have some hope that our team can win playoff games and have a chance at the superbowl sometime in the next decade and this move initially seems like one that will waste a couple of those years.

Pioli left a lot of holes and little depth at many positions outside of DL. I commend AR/JD for trying to fill those as best as possible even though I'm not big on a couple of the signings. I do like that they are not focused on upgrading one position but are looking at making this a more complete "team."

Okay fair enough, We'll have a volunteer CB.

BossChief 03-14-2013 11:45 AM

Great. Oakland is gonna run the bid up.

Just like they did with the Alex Smith trade.

They should be doing 2 things.

1. Locking up Albert longterm.
2. Signing Berry to an extension to lower his cap number.

Was told they aren't done.

They want an ILB in FA and more safety depth. No plans right now to address the Oline.

Plan is right now to use Robinson at FS.

penbrook 03-14-2013 11:48 AM

Schefter reports Smith has reached an agreement with the Chiefs

Brad Jones would work.

More safety depth? Jesus.

And please for the love of God tell me they aren't going to address the Oline because they're just going to draft Joeckel.

Halelujiah I love Dorsey and Reid. They have turned this franchise around a full 360.

Nope there drafting Fisher to play RT. Better athlete than Joeckel.

Welcome your #1 draft pick Luke Joekel!

They want to trade down in the worst way.

They view the difference between Joekel, Fisher and Johnson as marginal.

Geno Smith blowing up today could really help KC.

Cannibal 03-14-2013 11:52 AM

OT tackle at 1.1 has been obvious for a couple of weeks.

The Franchise 03-14-2013 11:52 AM

So what are our needs.....realistically?

DE
ILB
WR
RT

Do they view ANYONE has a RT that is in house right now?

I wasn't on this bandwagon before but with all of the additions I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Tavon Austin to be explosive in the slot. I don't like midget WR but if he is the reliable playmaker everyone is claiming then that may very well be exactly what we need.

penbrook 03-14-2013 11:54 AM

Sean Smith deal is a three year deal.

I think this has been the plan since day 1.

Reid, for whatever reason, just doens't like Geno. They will trade down and take whichever tackle is left.

Jeff Allen.

Jerm 03-14-2013 11:56 AM

They would probably never do this but what about trying to move Tamba, moving down a couple of spots, and taking Dion Jordan?

Some of us will not accept that until it happens on draft day, I want to hold out hope even if slim.

I posted in another thread that I wasn't on the Tavon Austin bandwagon before but if he is that reliable and such a big playmaker despite his size then he could be a great weapon on our offense considering the other players we have picked up.

Calling OT now with 1.1 is a bit steep. Yes we "can" do it, but Buffalo made a move yesterday that said they were ALL IN on a QB, some people missed that.

Their penciled in starter is Terdvaris Jackson. No franchise I know will go all in on Jackson.

Next, lets look at FA options. Mark Castle, Fitzpatrick, and potentially Carson palmer.

Nobody is going all in on Cassel, they were the ones that let Fitz go because he wouldn't take a pay cut, and Palmer is old and not on the market yet.

So we look at the draft. Geno, Barkley, and Nassib.

As of right now, we're taking a tackle, so Jacksonville could get Geno. We can get a solid tackle at the #8 position, there's no guarantee for a franchise guy at the #8 pick, and you know you won't be able to get a solid starter in FA after the draft.

All signs point to Buffalo trading at this point, the question is, will they go up to 1.1?

We will find out in about 40 something days, but my money right now is on a trade where they get extreme value out of the pick trade.

Imagine KC with the #8, and a 40ish pick. Tackle, Receiver, ILB 1-3. Bam, Bam, Bam. Suddenly the Alex Smith trade wasn't so steep for us.

By 'a lot younger' you mean like 6 months younger, since they were already crazy young there to begin with.

I'm all for Berry being in the most "space" situations as possible. Just let him roam. Dude can't cover anyone one on one to save his life.

Younger opposed to FA signings.

But yes you are right, looks like the guys we plan on playing right now average about 24 years of age.
