What I take from that is that the Chiefs are looking at the top 8 guys in the draft.

Meaning, ONE OF THESE GUYS IS FALLING TO THEM AT #8.

Interesting, Howie Roseman revealed today that the trade-up for Fletcher Cox last year was completed a day before the draft.

Interesting. Looks like we might have a serious trade offer on the table today and it will be finalized a day or so before the draft.

Reid must have got in touch with Gus and Dave. Classy ****ers.

But how does the Cox trade up have anything to do with this draft?

Teams are desperate and want their guy. Especially the Bills. They know the Jags are interested in Geno and would have to trade up with us to acquire him.

The Bills would be reeruns to pick Nassib in the 2nd and let him be the guy. Nobody is buying tickets to support that move.

That would be the very optimistic take. Generally, I don't like doing that. You'll only be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

Its 30 private workouts. We discussed that a few days ago.

"John has put a tour together and we're going around the country looking at the guys we think and feel are worthy of that pick," Reid said. "We've hit two schools, Oregon and BYU, and we've got a bunch of them on the schedule.'

So basically we are going to pretend like Matt Barkley doesn't exist until the hype train pulls up at his pro day?

True! But I think the Chiefs would rather trade down to the 6-8 range so they can get a buttload of high picks (like 2 1st including the swap for this year and a 2nd). There's really not a big difference this year between drafting say 7th overall and 2nd overall IMO, Geno Smith being the first overall pick.

Look at what the Redskins gave up for RG3. That had nothing to do with draft pick value, and everything to do with them wanting the QB. And it would appear that they've won the trade...

If there's 1 QB that multiple teams want, and multiple teams are bidding on it, you are going to get a haul. And you are going to lose in the trade.

Chiefs316 03-19-2013 02:43 PM

I'll have to admit that all of these moves have made me more active as a fan in the offseason then any other year. I am really looking foreword to the draft and what this new regime will do. I'll keep my fingers crossed on a QB at 1.1 but I highly doubt that happens.

I think the doubt in my mind is coming from just being a long-time Chiefs fan and being used to the fact that we don't draft 1st round QBs. With that said, I think (gut feeling) that Dorsey/Reid will draft Geno at 1.1 if we can't trade the pick.

If not, I bet they draft a young QB in round 3. Dorsey and the GB culture know the importance of drafting QB's.

No options are off the table when you have the #1 pick, the reason why he said this is if he has a trading partner that wants Geno and are willing to give the farm up for him...

There will be NO GENO in KC... Bank on it and move on.

I'm more confident that some team will get nervous and want to leap Jax and the raiders to get Geno. Buffalo needs something to sell their fans. Don't see Geno falling to them. They need to make the trade and we need their spot and 2nd rounder to make our draft "special".

It's definitely a statement to improve their bargaining position. In fact, if you don't get a desirable deal before the draft you should draft him, and hold him hostage. Someone is going to pay.

I don't think there's a chance the Chiefs take Geno either, but I have heard that there has been definite inquiries into the #1 overall pick.

Buffalo has backed themselves into a really awful corner. They have to come away with a good QB in this draft.

The Jaguars apparently like him too. That's the best case scenario in all of this.

Drop from 1-8, pick up an extra 2 and 3 in the process and a pick next year.

Rasputin 03-19-2013 07:15 PM

I don't expect that they will actually draft Geno Smith, but it would be cool as **** if they do. I'd be happy and can really get behind Andy Reid and Dorsey.

We can get the #40 and #72 pick for just moving down 7 spots in this years draft? Seems to good to be true.

For the most part people on their SBNation page seem fine with it. More people seem to prefer not taking a QB at 8 and getting a EJ Manuel or someone later.

Quote:

SI.com's Don Banks writes that the Jaguars were "more impressed than they were prepared to be" when they worked out West Virginia QB Geno Smith.
"I sat down one on one with him and I just wanted to see how he would be once he entered our building, our stadium," Bradley told Banks. "Are people going to gravitate towards him? Is he going to be a leader? Is he a guy that everybody will back and will he allow that to happen? I wanted to see how competitive is he going to be. Is he going to step into the building and it's like his team and somebody has to take it away from him? Really it was just to get a better feel for his mindset, and we had a great talk. I was very impressed with him at the meeting. I had high expectations, but I think he exceeded them. I came out of it feeling even better."

It would be a consolation if we got a good return, but if he is that GUY we will all be sick.

Andy Reid knows more than the rest of us slap docks, but unfortunately that doesn't mean he's always right either.

All the Jags are doing by showing so much interest in Geno is driving up interest for teams to trade up to the #1 spot. Geno isn't going to the Jags, someone will fall in love with him and jump to the #1 spot. My guess is Buffalo.
