The ultimate goal here is to become a playoff team, and trading for Alex Smith is a move that speaks to immediacy with regards to that goal. He has one of the top RBs in the league, he has one of the top WRs in the league, he has what I think should be a quality #2 WR in Avery, he has a variety of good players at both TE and WR, all of whom are able to catch the ball. The main question, I think, is the interior offensive line, but I believe that should work out, too. So taken all together I can't see any reasonable justification for limiting expectations for this offense, or for Alex Smith. They're as loaded as any unit we've seen since the '02-05 period, and they're coached by an aggressive, offensive-minded staff. They chose him as their 'guy' and there's no reason he shouldn't be expected to perform at a very high level. I have similar expectations for the other side of the ball, too. This is more talented than any 2-win team has a right to be. Due in no small part to the circumstances that led directly to them winning only 2 games last year (i.e. coaching and QB play). They should be in the playoff picture by the season's end, although I don't expect them to quite make it. |

Alex will know and do his job. It's really up to everyone else, in determining how far KC gets. He is a QB that will need help... not perfection from others... but help. He may not be that dynamic QB that can make shit happen when everything around falls apart. So if the team around him doesn't fall apart and plays their role? KC will do lots of good. |
Well to be fair, Gannon had HOF talent in Oakland. Smith does not have that here. Not to mention the expectations of Gannon to perform well there were slim to none. Basically Gruden was playing a crapshoot. Unlike with Smith who was brought from a Superbowl contending team of which he was a starter.
Apples and oranges. |

He took over a SB caliber team that's already coach up and was 13-3 with Alex Smith in 2011, he's like that lucky dog Arron Rodgers taking over a great team when Favre was traded to the Jets in 2008 (FYI Packers were also 13-3 the previous season in 2007 with Favre and also lost in the NFC championship to the NY Giants by 3 pts in overtime EXACTLY like the 9ers did in 2011's NFC Championship and who eventually won the SB vs the Pats, which was the same result in 2011 after they beat the 9ers.) For given such a great opportunity, Kap has already failed 1 opportunity to win a SB, that means he has to win at least 2 SBs before it's all say and done until anyone will consider him worthy of that opportunity that was given to him and cause the 49ers STILL have a FAILED WR CROP, it won't happen any time soon. For Harb and Baalke to fail at improving the 49er WR Crop since there is only 2 players left on the 53 man roster from the 2012 draft and only one of those player is really going to contribute but not by much, they have fail miserably at one of the biggest problem with the team. I'm pretty sure Rogers was 6-10 in his first full year as a starter.

Remember what Matt Flynn did that 1 game before he left? Flynn broke all Packers record with that offense (That includes Favre and Rodgers!!!). Where has Flynn been since? Failed in Seattle and now Fail in Oakland. Can Arron Rodger do anything if he was traded to a crap team? Not much LOL he would be getting sacked as much as he is now in with the packers ROFL ROFL ROFL!!! |

Alex averaged 22 attempts per game. We seen him throw 24 his last game and he had 158 yards in a half. I definitely see his attempts per game going up to at least 30. Thus his stats will be much more improved in yardage in which every one goes balls deep about because that's the only thing that makes a QB.
More attempts more yardage. 22 attempts less yardage than others throwing 30+. It's pretty damn simple math but nobody seems to get it. They expect 40000 yards on 22 attempts per game. |

Harb hand cuffed Alex Smith and over used the power running game as well as playing conservative in the red zone, while Reid will definitely implement more screens and short passes that Alex Smith excel with. Alex Smith will have no problem making the pro-bowl when he hits close to 4000 yds, plenty of TDs, still stay at a high 65%+ comp and taking the Chiefs to the play-offs. |

Perhaps someday you will make a coherent, articulate, and well-reasoned post in response to a New York Daily News story. Sadly, that day is not today. Here is what you fail to realize: NY Giants, QB Eli Manning - 2 Super Bowl appearances, 2 Super Bowl wins! 49ers, QB Colin Kaepernick - 1 Super Bowl appearance, 0 Super Bowl wins! *I fully do not understand the reluctance to hitch your wagon to San Francisco 49ers or Kansas City Chiefs. |
Quote:
My wagon is firmly and unequivocally hitched to the San Francisco 49ers. However, there is nothing wrong with taking a close interest and appreciation for what the Chiefs are building. There isn't an aspect of that team that I dislike... and I will enjoy watching KC when my 49ers are not playing in the same time-slot... which is 12-13 games. |

I am truly at a loss on how to deal with your insecurity. With that said, I will move on. |

I bash Eli as inconsistent. No doubt he hurts his team with foolhardy play from time to time ala Brett Favre. Yet, he has 2 super bowl rings. Why would have have 2 super bowl rings despite 2 terrible throws that BOTH SHOULD HAVE BEEN intercepted. Yes, Eli had good fortune in his wins, just like he cost his teams the chance to advance to super bowls when his gambling failed. Because, "who dares, wins". In other words, winners take the appropriate risk at the appropriate time. The risk averse tend to be losers because they don't boldly reach for the brass ring, but play it safe all the way through. Eli is foolhardy at times, which is why I do not consider him elite, yet his gambling nature paid off with 2 super bowl victories. Alex's cautious nature precludes that. I would rather have a sound mind in Brady or Rodgers, than a gambler like Eli or Favre. But all of them gave their teams a better chance for championships than a cautious player like Alex. |
Quote:
Alex +1 on the Saints playoff win. Most agree with that. Alex -1 on the Giants playoff loss. (almost worked, but Kyle Williams ****ed us) @ Cincy 2011 - two 4th quarter drives for 10 points to separate and take the W. @ Philly 2011 - TD drive in 4th quarter to take back the lead for good... W. @ TB 2011 - Alex threw 3 TDs and SF beat them fools 41-3. Alex sat most of the 4th quarter in the blowout. @ Detroit 2011 - Alex hits Walker for the 4th quarter TD to get the W. @ NYG 2011 - 4th quarter TD pass to separate by 7 and the D holds off the rest. @ AZ 2011 - two 2nd half TDs to separate for easy win. Not even going to go on... there were games that Alex didn't or couldn't do enough to help his team win.. The loss @ Baltimore stands out. The 2012 losses @ Minnesota and @ NYG stands out. ... but this whole, "he refuses to take any risks" bullshit is ridiculous. He should have taken more risks in that Giants playoff game... but who could imagine that Kyle Williams would piss the game away like that? time and again. |
Those are all exceptions that prove the rule.
My greater point is that even an inconsistent passer like Eli can still get to and win super bowls, because sometimes their gambles pay off. Yes, sometimes they kill you, but sometimes they get lucky and their gambles pay off. Eli got lucky when the 49ers dropped 2 easy interceptions, yet his gambling eventually paid off and got him a 2nd ring. |
Quote:
Eli had two dropped picks, one of them which led to both Goldson and Tarrell Brown being off the field when Eli threw the td to manningham after the ball off the knee. There was everything that went right for the Giants that went wrong for the 49ers. I cant remember the 49er who said it, but, the best team didn't win that day. |
