Like i said earlier, it's an unconventionally designed electric Honda Ridgeline. |
They shoulda marketed as some sort of Truck-SUV hybrid. I think it would be better received as such. But as a Truck? No way.

And it'll explode/burst into flames if you get into an accident. So it has that going for it as well. |

This picture pretty much confirms it: Not functional as an actual truck. Here at the shop we make fun of these short-beds...because, well, you can't actually do much that's work/haul related because the bed is too small.
https://i.imgur.com/kWKcGuS.jpg It's a truck for people who don't actually drive trucks. In short, it's a freakin' Honda Ridgeline. |
Another way to look at it: It's a an SUV with an open cargo area.

EDIT: Eh, maybe not. Looks like those are only around 30k per year. |

Hauling a big screen tv from the entertainment center doesn't count. For people who do its your office tools and equipment while on the road. In my case it also must transport a crew and their gear for out of town work. This Tesla thing is interesting but I wouldnt want to work out of it. My truck needs to be personalised not what a genius thinks works but what I know works. I build my bed box drawers to fit my needs. Id have to see it in person to know if I could configure it to my needs in the field. I have a good relation with our person in charge of fleet vehicles he is agreeable to my needs but Id get laughed out of the office pushing for that thing. |

The biggest strike against this truck for the worker who works from a pickup is when your out in middle of nowhere something goes wrong with it. Who the hell to call? Your stuck time is money that there seals its fate as a fleet truck. But this isn't the market Elon is after he is looking for the cool factor crowd.

I'm guessing this version is not meant to replace the F-350 super duty |
It wont replace a working F150 or 1500 either.

Almost as though they didn't set out to design a work truck! |

You'd have to ask the tens of millions of people driving trucks that rarely or never tow anything I suppose. |
Well they are stupid I drive trucks for work most of my life. I own the biggest sedan I can afford for the comfort.

One of the two of you is wrong. |
Tesla Cybertruck
One thing that’s odd about it is that it is so streamlined that it actually looks much lower and smaller than it is. Clearance looks low, headspace looks small, and the bed seems non existent. I imagine that alone is something truck people would have a hard time getting past.
|
For everyone complaining that it isn't and can never be a work truck: This isn't meant for you.
This is meant for the guys that drive $70,000 fully loaded half tons stuffed with leather seats and trim, bose audio, heating and cooling seats, etc. As somebody said above, think of it as an electric SUV with an open cargo area. |

I'll bet $20 this thing either never hits the road or comes out in some form that looks a lot more like a normal truck.

Raise the roofline and flatten the pickup bed sides and you have something interesting.
The seats have to be raised like a normal truck. No way in hell can you have the seats sitting on the floor of a work vehicle. As for the guts and the tech, BRING IT ON. |

For what it's worth, here's Telsa's roadster concept. No mirrors. But they'll be added by the time they reach production. https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/Xg...id-shojaee.jpg |

Unlike you I also think there's a chance it never comes to market and everyone just gets their money back. The tunnel thing he built in LA is basically a complete fraud. |

Perhaps Elon is not going after your everyday farmer, but there is a market. https://s.aolcdn.com/dims-global/dim...HT322A0802.jpg My neighbor has one of these... Is it practical? nope. But he likes it and that is fine with me. https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/Qw...50-extreme.jpg |

I don't see how pointing out that a Yukon Denali that at the bare bones minimum is 68k MSRP would be more comfortable than any car below $40,000 has anything to do with that. Of course any vehicle that costs $30,000 more will generally have more comfortable seats. If you buy a $70,000 Mercedes sedan it will probably have more comfortable seats than any truck under $40,000, that's just common sense. GM's flagship sedan the Impala in it's Premier trim package I'm sure uses similar materials for the seats that the Yukon Denali's use (it is the same manufacturer after all), but the vehicle starts over $30k cheaper. You're not paying for seats with that extra money the biggest things are the bigger motor, suspension, frame etc. that if you aren't towing/hauling anything are completely unnecessary. Even if you need something 4wd you can get a Denali Terrain which would have the same Denali seats for about $40K. |

Is there any other way "it isn't functional as a truck"? For instance "can't have a toolbox and access things over the side". You've got a under-bed trunk at the tailgate and a giant frunk under the hood. Why would you throw random small items behind the can anymore? As a construction worker, the is NOTHING LESS FUNCTIONAL than a "toolbox" in the back of a truck. Been around them for years and still haven't seen an organized one that works. I'd probably prefer some sort or tool organization in the front trunk with a charger bank and batteries already plugged in charging. Could easily fit multiple impacts, drills, saw all, portaban, hammerdrill etc up there organized and charged. Throw the rest under the bed or in the side rail storage. I'd have a 100% clear 6.5' bed with all my tooling at all times. You city guys are going to have to explain to me how it doesn't function as a truck. It blows away any setup I've dealt with in years. P.S. Truck toolboxs are dumb and only serve the purpose of signaling to other truck drivers that you're not a "poser". Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

I get it. You guys think it's ugly and it's electric so I hate it. But it literally outperforms any F- 150 in everyday outside of a full-size 8ft bed. Y'all are grasping at straws. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |

To say truck boxes are dumb is as ignorant as shit.
Just because you or the people you have been around don’t know how to properly make use of them does not mean they are dumb. We have used them on our farm for years and have multiple trucks with them. I have made custom shelves to store batteries for power tools, shelves for ratchets and sockets, spots to hold the power tools that require the batteries. |

You're ****ing reeruned. And that's coming from someone who would jump all over the equivalent of a reliable 4-500 mile electric 4x4 3/4 ton if i could strip down all the ignorant shit they're going to force us to buy in order to own it. ... and fyi, half the people you're discussing this with are not "city guys". LMAO |
Quote:
I hope like hell this succeeds and they make a true 3/4 ton electric truck because I will definitely be interested in it. This thing just doesn’t do anything for me or any work I do with a truck, it has a long way to go until it gets to that point. |

Aturnis, we own construction businesses and farms.
Don’t tell us what does and doesn’t work. I’m excited about this truck, and believe electric is the future, but come on. |
