Thats a definite and welcome upgrade, but I still prefer stuffing once or twice a year... but you do you, there are no wrong answers in this thread

I like stuffing more honestly.

Pepe Silvia 11-26-2024 10:43 PM

Hopefully nobody's turkey ends up like this.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy.

Bwana 11-27-2024 07:51 AM

One a side note. If you're looking for one more dish to fill out that feast you have planned. This is super simple to make and tastes really good.

Cream Corn Recipe

8 ears of corn (Frozen corn will also work if ears unavailable.)
2 red bell peppers diced
2 jalapeños diced
1 cup of heavy cream
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1 stick salted butter, cut into pieces

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees slice the corn off cob in large deep bowl. Turn knife dull side down and scrape the cob to remove all the bits of kernel and the creamy milk.

2. Add the red bell peppers, jalapeños, heavy cream, 2 teaspoons salt, a generous amount of pepper and the butter, mix well. Pour into a 9 by 13" baking dish. Bake until hot and bubbly, 45 to 55 minutes.

RockChalk 11-27-2024 10:00 AM

Mashed potatoes
Green bean casserole
Pumpkin pie

Megatron96 11-27-2024 11:37 AM

I always throw a dollop of stuffing on top of my mashed potatoes. Sometimes I mix the green bean casserole in there as well. Though we don't do green bean casserole anymore, since my nephew suddenly decided a couple three years ago that he didn't like them anymore.

And I only like stuffing that's cooked in the bird. The stuffing straight from a pan/pot is pretty tasteless.

JohnnyHammersticks 11-27-2024 07:50 PM

Explain yourselves, beet lovers. Do you also enjoy a nicely prepared bowl of dirt?

Beets taste exactly like dirt. Do they eat dirt on the planet you beet-loving aliens come from? Is that what you're weened on there?

They're better if you wash and peel them first op

DrunkBassGuitar 11-27-2024 08:44 PM

I wonder if beets tasting like dirt is like how some people think cilantro tastes like soap

They're earthy but they don't taste bad to me and cilantro has a slight bitter and astringent taste but just enough to be good but I'm not like a super taster

Pepe Silvia 11-27-2024 11:24 PM

I just put my turkey in. I'm cooking it overnight low and slow.

Cilantro is apparently like aspartame. There are "tasters" and "non-tasters".

BTW, cilantro tastes like soap.

The three basics.

Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy.

I'm not up to cooking a full spread this year, so the four grandchildren and I are having grilled ribeyes, mashed potatoes, green beans, and pumpkin and pecan pies.

Happy Thanksgiving

The Chicken-n-Dumplings are a family tradition that was in place before I was born. Everyone seems to like them more than about any other dish at Thanksgiving. In our household I have taken over the honor of making the dish from my mom's recipe. May she rest in peace! I boiled my chicken last night and I'm about to pull the stock out of the fridge and get busy with it. Sadly I can't ever make enough to have much leftovers because everybody eats them all up.

Do twice baked potatoes instead. Bake large potatoes, cut in half lengthwise and hollow out like canoes, make high end (tons of add-ins) mashed potatoes out of what you carved out, fill the hollowed out potato canoes with that, put cheese and bacon on top and bake again until the cheese is melted, top with green onions and sour cream.

Bullshit. There’s no such thing as too much stuffing. As the name implies, its purpose is to stuff you.

Happy thanksgiving!

Used to buy those all the time from the grocery store, until sorry ass Hyvee bought them out :grr:

They are pretty easy to do and they are delicious straight from the fridge if any of them survive to the next day. Throw some ham glaze or turkey gravy on there and plow.

listopencil 11-28-2024 12:27 PM

Also, for tomorrow, consider turkey quesadillas for brunch. You may want to wait a few days for when the turkey gets dry and the household is getting sick of turkey.

Nope, turkey sammich with a generous slather of mayo

Wait a few days. If you still have a bunch of smaller, dry pieces of turkey that you don't want to just throw away; turkey and jalapeno quesadilla with Ranch dressing and/or avocado.

listopencil 11-28-2024 12:37 PM

Also: Giant turkey pot pie in a full size pie plate with leftovers thrown in.

YEP

Best part of the meal is the turkey sammich the day after

KCUnited 11-28-2024 01:25 PM

Pro tip: if you add cream cheese to your potatoes (and you better be), smoke it for a few minutes on your rig first like a real one

Pepe Silvia 11-28-2024 02:34 PM

Ditto, gotta brag on Moms turkey... she always cooks it in a baking bag and it was perfect as usual, even the white meat is always juicy

The baking bag is a failproof cheat code, keeps all the moisture in

I've been in some really nice Hyvees, but this one is terrible

No real meat department, its all prepackaged and shipped in

An extremely small and limited deli, and no hot bar with fried chicken, fish, meatloaf, various sides etc like the place they bought out used to have
