Two years ago, Andy had to strong arm him into sitting down. He almost went back into the game yesterday. People are blowing this way out of proportion.

Its all speculation at this point but I would bet he goes back out there if we aren't up 2 TD's.

BTW I distinctly remember Mahomes telling a team mate "I'm fine" when they came over to talk to him on the sideline.

Danguardace 12-16-2024 01:28 PM

That ankle would have to be amputated before Mahomes sits out a game.

A mild high ankle sprain was a very good outcome for Pat. Means he will hopefully be fully functional in the playoffs. Also the previous ones he had in 2019 and 2022 were way worse and he never missed a game so I'm hopeful we'll see him against the Texans tbh.

RunKC 12-16-2024 02:16 PM

Patrick Surtain suffered the same injury and he has a chance to play on Thursday

It is not for the lowly Browns to deny the King his field against the Texans.

Ankle sprain and high ankle sprain are not the same.

An ankle sprain is always worse the next day though.

Holthus:

"If Patrick Mahomes is cleared to play, he will play. Some would say even if he's cleared to play, sit him. No, if he's cleared to play, Pat will play."

"These games are way too important to try to get the bye. Get the bye. Capture the bye. Because if you get a bye you're gonna play one game in 24 days."

"This might be the best pass-rushing team in the league. The [Texans]...their pressures are near the top of the league. But if Pat can go, he'll go."

"I've never seen this coaching staff or this athletic training staff ever force a guy back from an injury. They have gone out of their way to show discretion. They will not hurry a guy back and risk further injury. So if Pat can't go, he won't go."

Brown seems to be Mahomes’s favorite target so far in practice.

Based on watching him stalk the sideline this week, compared to his high ankle sprain this is absolutely nothing

Nasty cold and wet conditions demanded Andy pull him before a minor tweak became an actual injury... we good

You keep using that term, but I'm not sure you understand what it means. Just because you wrote several sentences of nonsense doesn't make it a copypasta. People copying it and pasting over and over again makes it a copypasta. I'm pretty sure you're the only person that posted it and knew it was nonsense. Other people posted it because they thought it was real for some reason.

I kind of agree. Put Wentz in and see what he can do. If it’s not going well then you put Mahomes in as long as the O line knows they can’t get him killed

That’s what I’d do

The Chiefs can lose 1 game through now till the end of the regular season to maintain the #1 seed.

If Wentz starts and helps beat the Texans then I'd start Carson against the Steelers too.

If we lose then we have to probably play Mahomes the last 2 weeks without having the ability to rest anyone week 18 .

Nor sure why everyone one here thinks the Texans are an easy win, great pass rush good DBs , good wr and a good qb they could easily beat us.

It took 6 turnovers for us to beat the shitty Browns. No game is a walk in the park.

UChieffyBugger 12-17-2024 07:11 AM

Pat literally said he would have gone back into the game if we weren't winning comfortably. And now it's been confirmed that it's a MILD ankle sprain which means it's nowhere near as bad as his previous injuries and there should be no lingering issues moving forward.

I expect him to practice this week and if he gets through that then he'll play. Then after the texans game if he gets through that game fine then he'll play against the Steelers too. Because that's just the way Pat is wired.

I just hope the O-line guys take this incident and use it as fuel to rise up just like they did in 2022. Different tackles I know but it's time to protect 15 at all cost now.

CJ Stroud and the Texans line are having the exact issues our offense is having, but arguably even worse.

irafreak 12-17-2024 07:31 AM

Too much at stake to rest him. Despite recent success, winning a super bowl is hard and requires a few breaks. You aim for the 1 seed these next two games.

Worse case, you don't get it and mahomes gets hurt. Best case you skip a game AND get lowest seeded team in the divisional round. That's a pretty big deal too.

This whole team needs a break, not just mahomes. Only the one seed provides that. It's worth the risk.

GordonGekko 12-17-2024 07:35 AM

Rest him for next two games, Wentz should go 1-1 in his two starts (Texans can be beaten w/ backup QB at home in Arrowhead & Wentz is a bit better than a normal backup QB), bring Mahomes back for last game if necessary to clinch 1 seed

O.city 12-17-2024 07:49 AM

He walked off the field, walked out of the locker room in sneakers.

I'm guessing it's not ready to be amputated.

That is all.

GO CHIEFS

Yeah, FB is entertaining, but facts aren't part of the itinerary for sure.

In fact, I see more bullshit, and much of it about the Chiefs posted on their than in the romper room. Some really horrible takes, some would even sit Mahomes for having a bad year at 13-1!

I am all for it, give him a break. This team has played one hell of a lot of football games the last five years.

Bit late for that, time to protect Pat by running the ball a considerable amount more was 4 games ago.

Give him a break for what reasoning?

He walked off on his own power and wanted to come back in the game. The #1 seed is right there for us, this is where you separate yourself from the rest. These type of situations make you great. You play through injury for your teammates, trying to get the #1 seed so everyone gets a rest day.

Texans have the worst run defense, just design run plays, quick slants and screens. He’s needs to be on the field if he says he can go.

He isn't perfect enough for enough Chiefs fans for it to matter anyway

Worse case, you don't get it and mahomes gets hurt. Best case you skip a game AND get lowest seeded team in the divisional round. That's a pretty big deal too.

This whole team needs a break, not just mahomes. Only the one seed provides that. It's worth the risk.

This is the way they will do it or try to

Because it's not just his ankle that's messed up. He's mentally fried and not seeing the field when he does get good protection. If he can't move and can't see the field then maybe a week break would do him some good.

Who said he’s mentally fried or is that your assumption? Again, you don’t sit players bc they’re fried lol. It’s call being resilient.

Mahomes isn’t Anthony Richardson, you play him if he says he’s ready to go. It’s that simple.

He needs as many reps with the offense as possible, resting him only takes it away. How do you expect this offense to get into sync?

I doubt it. But if they win the next 2 games they clinch the 1 seed and get 3.5 weeks off to work on fixing the offense before their divisional game which sounds better

I didn’t see this until I made my previous posts, we’re on the same page.

Mahomes shouldn’t be the only one entitled to a break. Hell, I’m sure he knows most of his guys are battered injuries too, we just don’t see it as fans.

DrunkBassGuitar 12-17-2024 09:16 AM

I think Mahomes should rest for this game but he's going to play. He's going to play as long as his leg is still attached to his body and even if it wasn't Andy would have to pull rank to get him to sit out for 2 drives.

Dartgod 12-17-2024 09:22 AM

I don't understand the "sit Patrick no matter what" talk. If he's not ready, sure. But if he is ready, he better damn well be in there Saturday. We have to assume Buffalo wins out, meaning we HAVE to win 2 out of 3 remaining games. This is our last home game and having PMII at QB gives us our best chance to win.

Patrick should play.

I'll tell you what, If I was Clark Hunt, I would be calling whoever is responsible for all these non-calls against our QB. This is bullshit. Goodell, the head referee in charge, whoever....and tell them, "You know what? Forget about your Netflix ****ing special if this is the abuse you're going to let happen to our QB. Any other scheduling quirks that you want our QB to be in, forget it. Watch your ratings plummet. This has gone on for waaaay to long. Start protecting our QB like every other team gets!"
