Drew Lock is clearly outperforming Mauk in scrimmages, according to what I'm hearing from people with eyes on.

Maybe Harold Brantley can take Maty for a ride...

Wonder if Pinkel will have the balls to start him...I see a redshirt coming though sadly.

Chase Daniel got to play a series each half as a freshman. If you hear Lock is going get a series here & there then Pinkel is slowly putting him into the QB.

Doubtful he would ever start this year. Pinkel always gives the young qb several series before they are handed the keys. If they have no faith in mauk I would expect lock to not red shirt and get his experience this year, leading to a competition next year, where the job is up for grabs. I don't see Pinkel awarding the job to lock this year outside of injury. Pinkel's loyalty to his hand picked Ohio qb tells me the job is mauks this year, my question is if he has a shit year, does lock get a fair chance next year?

Is he the Pinkel that sticks with his guy no mater what, or the Pinkel that surprised everyone and started brad Smith against Illinois?

Beat me to it...

Didn't he inherit Farmer? A fragile inherited qb vs his hand picked qb? I'm guessing we see the loyal pinkel here.

You seem to be agreeing with me. Pinkel has a long history of giving the next guy in line several series the year before he is given the keys. 2005 was literally that year for Chase, and that was an injury situation vs ISU anyway. I'm saying g I think next year will be locks year to get his playing time from time to time. Now, if mauk is still shitty, lock may not red shirt this year, and he could get his playing time/exposure this year, but I think that would be a departure from Pinkels usual loyalty to a fault. Mauk is the starter this year based on how our last 4 qb careers have gone. We aren't starting a true freshman this year.

I agree Lock won't start. Hell, I think he'll probably redshirt. Next year, however, all bets are off. Lock very well could be the starter in 2016.

Which would still be a departure from how GP has always handled the QB situation. Not saying its impossible, but if he RS Lock this year, I'd be surprised if he starts a game next year. It would take a tailspin of a season that can be solely attributed to Mauk to make Lock the starter next year. I see very little chance of Lock starting the season as the starter in 2016 if he RS in 2015.
