Its time to take the training wheels off, and open up the offense. I saw some well thrown passes downfield today that dropped, or were just off by a little. Its like if we don't hit the one or two deep ones we attempt, we just go away from it entirely.

This 5 yd pass behind the LOS, and 3yd slant garbage is just not getting it done.

Hand the ball to Charles, let him get rolling, then open up the playaction. Alex is great with playaction, but without a running threat, its a wasted talent.

The doubts have been getting stronger and stronger.

Come on, Alex.

The O is getting worse instead of better, game by game...they GOTTA get this shit fixed over the bye...

I didn't notice Fisher get his usual ass pounding this game, but hot damn the interior line sucks.

I can't believe that two first round picks, two seconds, and two thirds still can't field an OL capable of giving Smith good protection.

Alex isn't good enough to succeed without a clean pocket. He needs help from the OL and the WR. He can't overcome shoddy play around him the way an elite QB can.

9-0!!

Sweet Daddy Hate 11-04-2013 01:42 PM

More 1st, 2nds, and 3rds! Build him that clean pocket! That's all it would take! Eleventy Billion 'ships guaranteed!

No kidding-how the hell can Smith throw downfield or wait for a route to develop when 2 or 3 of our OLine are getting beat on every play.

I blame the following for our offensive woes
  • Our O line 75%
  • Alex Smith's lack of accuracy 15%
  • Play calling 10%

Is I-65 available?

Ask yourself - why does an offense with an established veteran QB need training wheels?

saphojunkie 11-04-2013 06:57 PM

I do wonder how much less this offense would suck with any kind of a second wide receiver and decent OL play. Smith is no world beater, but he is capable of more than this.

That's not to say that Aaron Rodgers wouldn't still be outproducing him even with the same WR and OL. But whoever quarterbacks this team going forward is going to need better blocking and at least one more playmaker at the WR position.

So suddenly Donnie Avery isn't good enough? LMAO

He was good enough for Andrew Luck last year.

Avery and Bowe have lost a step, coincidentally in the same season.....

I think a more likely explanation for the lack of deep balls is that Alex Smith simply prefers not to throw deep when he can help it.

Nearly all of his passes over 30 yds have been pre-snap reads delivered in the rhythm of a five-step drop (essentially, they are just for show).

He was good enough to average 48 YPG and 0.23 TDs per game with Andrew Luck last year. He's on pace to equal that this season. At no point in his entire career has he been anything more than a serviceable #2 option.

2013 (9 games)
396 YDs 1 TD

2012 (16 games)
781 YDs 3 TD

Did you actually think what you said was true or were you just trolling?

Hammock Parties 11-04-2013 08:09 PM

And again...that was good enough for Luck last year.

So clearly Donnie Avery isn't an issue.
