That's a conservative time frame.

BryanBusby 06-14-2016 06:45 PM

The program is a hot mess. If the Spring Game was any indication, we're going to be testing the quality of the QB depth chart this year.

Offensive Line was total ass. Lock looked bigger, but not big enough to take the shit pounding he will be receiving.

Priest31kc 06-14-2016 10:16 PM

I cant remember ever being so apathetic about Mizzou sports than now...

Basketball program has been dead and irrelevant for 3 years now and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

Football program has been a mess the last year and coming off the worst year since, what 2004? It was worse than 2012 IMO, almost unwatchable alot of times even though the defense was really good.

And yeah, I don't see a huge jump this year...Could be back to back below average years for the first time in a while and then what after that? I like Odom, but can he and his staff recruit enough talent to get us back to what we were or better? I don't know...

It just sucks. Terrible time to be a Tiger. No optimism or hope really for both sports for me right now...

BryanBusby 06-14-2016 10:48 PM

I like Odom, but holy **** did they walk him into an unwinnable situation.

I think the pressure to turn the football program around, and somewhat fast, is very high. After last fall, they need some success from a major program to bring some excitement and booster money back in.

Not a ****ing chance the basketball program will be anything over a wet fart for at least 5 years, once Afkimistan is finally liberated. The pressure will be squarely on the football program.

Always thought Odom would have been best to simmer at the top of the Memphis program for awhile, where he could be easily raided if their gamble on an outsider failed. I do think he will be successful eventually, but it may not be here.

duncan_idaho 06-15-2016 06:36 AM

The offensive line is definitely going to be the biggest question. The kid they added from Georgia this week has them very excited from what I'm told. He slipped through the cracks because his Hs coach didn't think he would qualify and wasn't passing info to him about offers, but he is qualified and ready to go.

They think he can help right away. We will see.

I expect the RB play to be better - the OU transfer is going to be a big help there.

If the OL is just solid, I think they're a 7-8 win team again, which would be a huge bounce back for Odom.

DJ's left nut 06-15-2016 09:26 AM

Look - basketball is a piece of shit.

But why so down on football right now? Mizzou's O-Line and WRs were garbage last year; the defense was actually as good as its ever been. Well the O-Line has a lot more talent now and a better coach. The WR corps has been improved as well.

As for the RB defections - yeah, they suck. But RB was such a shitshow last year that it can't get any worse. If nothing else, a year in the system should have Witter being less awful than he was last year.

{shrug} It could be worse. They're still getting nice recruits (two big time WRs from the KC area in the last week and the OL from Georgia). They were getting interest from the Baylor RB until the assholes at Baylor wouldn't release him from his commitment, which is just unbelievable to me.

The program isn't in shambles. Odom's going to have some work to do but just how easy can anyone expect an SEC head coaching job to be?

Stargazer 06-15-2016 04:36 PM

I guess I have a certain level of optimism based on, what I believe to be, a very talented, up-and coming staff. Big fan of the Josh heupel hire and I think he will add a lot to an offense that was running in reverse all last season. There seems to be some help at receiver in guys like Chris Black and Johnathan Johnson, who is coming off injury.

Discuss Thrower 06-15-2016 09:12 PM

Missouri won't get close to being in the SEC title game for a while.

They'll be lucky to avoid being Vandy pre-James Franklin bad.

BryanBusby 06-15-2016 09:49 PM

Pre-Franklin Vandy is probably a bit dramatic, but at least for now I'd guess they will be on the edge for bowl eligibility.

They won't even be the worst team in the division (lets not forget that USC made a god awful hire).

Despite the fact that the items in question were in plain sight and they were in possession of a stolen handgun, a DA refuses to press charges on two Alabama players, including their starting LT, for "lack of evidence," because, "I'm not going to ruin their lives when they've been working in the heat and we've been in the air conditioning."

Oh, and Art Briles never apologized to a rape victim he promised to. College football is just the goddamned worst.

Can't really prosecute when there's insufficient evidence:shrug:

BryanBusby 06-20-2016 06:34 PM

In a lot of these instances, there's more than enough evidence but bah gawd we got foowbaw games to win!

If there's still enough evidence that you have to say you need to prosecute, when you're doing a cover up, than you should maybe reconsider everything.

Titty Meat 06-20-2016 07:19 PM

Missouri the favorite for Babb but Riley is gonna finesse his way to a commitment.

Man the slimy, sleazy underbelly of CFB rivals any sport....dare I say it is the worst...

BryanBusby 06-20-2016 08:16 PM

After PSU failing to handle child rape properly....yeah I think it's fair to say that college football is truly awful behind the scenes.

DJ's left nut 06-30-2016 03:54 PM

And Rhoades continues to plunder shitty directional colleges in Missouri for his coaches.

Mizzou hires Bieser away from SEMO.

Doing a bangup ****ing job, Mack. Pretty sure you haven't done one single thing I couldn't do to this point in your career as AD. Good work.

I've been nicer to him than most, but I'm now out on Rhoades. He's been ducking fundraising events, and clearly can't close a hire.

I still think Odom will work out OK, but that's coincidence more than anything, IMO.

When I was house shopping last spring, the house next to him was for sale. Very nice home but oddly laid out so we didn't go that route.

Thank God....I'm not sure he'd be terribly fond of his new neighbor.

Like you said - the Odom hire is probably pure dumb luck and again, nothing you or I couldn't have pulled off. He just keeps falling back on his safety schools. There's no creativity, no risk. He's just going out there and taking whatever low hanging fruit is available.

It's just abysmal. You look at Alden's record and at least he was able to snag Pinkel and Snyder when they were big time gets. Hell, even Anderson was a nice hire given the state of the program. Alden, for everything he was awful at, made some very nice initial hires.

Rhoades, OTOH, whacking whatever jumps into his boat with an oar and calling it a day. He's been awful.

Titty Meat 06-30-2016 04:29 PM

Both of our teams suck

I get the feeling that was all Pinkel because he had the foresight to get Odom into place.

Bowser 08-03-2016 11:39 AM

Harold Brantley and Walter Brady are off the team.

Man, when it rains it pours

Pitt Gorilla 08-03-2016 12:20 PM

I'm not sure Brantley was going to contribute anyway, but Brady is a huge loss. WTF?

DJ's left nut 08-03-2016 12:30 PM

I think I mentioned it 'round here but a buddy of mine told me last fall that there was no way Brantley ever suited up again. He has a pretty good connection on the staff and evidently Brantley just doesn't go to class. At all.

The coach was exasperated as all hell because they just kept telling him that all he'd have to do is show up and he'd manage to stay eligible (he's evidently not stupid). But he simply has no interest.

The same guy told me that the staff thought they'd gotten him squared away at the last minute but it looks like that fell through.

Sucks losing Brantley because he's a true 'Mizzou Made' guy; not heralded at all and turned himself into a legit SEC caliber player and potential NFL guy. He's kinda the epitome of what Mizzou needs to do to compete at this level.

Losing Brady sucks because that cat was just !@#$ing good. Guessing drugs or he hit a woman. Whatever it was, I'm blaming Mauk.

Dammit, I was just going to post something to the effect of: Whatever you do, don't tell Hamas. He doesn't need that right now.

I guess Brantley didn't care about the "just show up to class and you could very well be a millionaire this time next year" speech either. I just don't understand.

I'm a KU guy, so EVERYTHING about MU sucks. Nonetheless, I do kinda like this Odom fellow. Seems to have his head screwed on straight -- might be the only one in Columbia, but hey, it's a start!!!

PGM, are you seriously dissing on the KU football team?!?!?!? That's preposterous, as they are below being dissed. Gonna be awhile before that program gets turned around as per the result of back-to-back horrible head coaches.

Nate Brown out 6-8 weeks with high ankle sprain.

(Need new thread, Hamas.)

Has anyone here ever sat on the hill for a game? I'm looking for cheap tickets for my family of 4...two kids (13 & 9).

Also, this is for the Eastern Michigan game so there will likely be a lot of open seats in the stands. If you get in with a hill ticket, can you easily move to the stands?

I've done it a few times. Think it would be fun with kids if you make it like a picnic situation. Bring blankets/towels!

Also: it gets hot on the hill for Day games in Sept. Bring sunscreen and hats and water bottles.

You generally can move to bleacher seats fairly easily as long as they're open.

We've done it with our boys and it was fun. However, you need to be prepared that one will tend to slide a bit as you sit, which can be a bit annoying.
