Part of the reason they scored so much was bad shot selection by Smart. It doesn't go down in the book as a turnover, but it's essentially the same thing.

It was a bad game, but there are greater issues going on with Oklahoma State than a few bad shots by their best player.

Normally they don't collapse for another 2-3 weeks.

Pierre Jackson kept them afloat while he was there. Don't have that spark plug anymore.

Agreed. But it's definitely part of it.

Just in case you forgot...Bill Self > John Calipari.

You obviously love the guy, so whatever, but he's shooting 25% over the past 3 games and is 3/21 from 3... that's more than a few bad shots. Besides those mad skillz to get to the free throw line, he's been pretty awful offensively in their conferences losses, two of which were lost by a possession.

Their entire offense relies on his creation abilities. When his shots aren't falling, he's still routinely getting shots for other players (and also getting to the line at an incredible rate, he went 19 for 25 from there during the stretch you're referring to). So again, Marcus Smart is not the problem with OSU, he's the only thing keeping them in the top 25.

Like most young teams, Kentucky still can't play on the road.

KC_Connection 01-28-2014 10:17 PM

Did anybody just see how that game ended? Odd.

Silock 01-28-2014 10:17 PM

Wtf. Awful coaching.

UK down five. 20 seconds left. They didn't foul. Just tried to trap and grab the ball for a tie up. LSU dribbled it out.

In Calipari's first 3 seasons, UK was 49-15 away from Rupp. In the last year and a half, they're 7-15.

KC_Connection 01-28-2014 10:25 PM

I don't have a real problem with Calipari as I think he's pretty damn good at what he does, but that last play didn't make any sense.

Why he decided to bring up 40-0 in the pre-season with a team of freshmen, I'm also still not sure. Seems even more ridiculous in retrospect.

@phogsports: Aren't you glad we don't have a coach like this #kubball http://t.co/DroPM7oik0
