IMHO, Pitching is the key on do we break .500.

So who's going to the opener? I'll be there on a vendor's dime in section 221.

Dunit35 03-28-2023 09:22 PM

Section 322 for us. Never been to opening day before. Looks like it’s going to be super windy.

Archie Bunker 03-29-2023 07:15 AM

I’ll be in Sec 115. First opening day and first Greinke game. I’m excited.

Hopefully the weather holds.

I can't remember how many I've been to. Quite a few for sure. It was windy as hell last year too. Tailgating was a bitch. It will be warmer tomorrow though.

Warm and windy isn’t too bad. I can’t remember what year it was maybe 2012 or 2013 the home opening day was like 39 degrees and windy. That sucked

Had to go back and look it up. It was April 4 2014. High of 44 with winds out of the north 15-20mph. Gusts up to 25-30. Woof

March 29, 2018. Also a high of 44 degrees plus 10-20 mph winds. Me and Mrs. Dartgod bundled up for the game.

First data point from the new pitch clock rules - spring training games. Last year games were 3:01, this year 2:36. Would expect similar in regular season. Getting rid of dead air time one of the best rule changes MLB has made.

I’ll be easy to spot. I’ll be the only idiot who’s wearing a Chiefs salute to service hoodie since I don’t own a Royals hoodie.

This was my experience over ST.

Also seemed like most times pitchers were getting the ball out with 8-10 still on the clock. Seems like this benefits pitchers maintaining a rhythm as well as the fans.

Looking at you Marvel movies.

Is Michael Massey legit? Sorry for my ignorance.

Yes he is. In fact, he's one of the most under the radar ballers in MLB. He has power that few have noticed because of Kaufman being so large.

Here is a tweet from respected sabermetrically inclined baseball writer Jeff Zimmerman of fangraphs. I don't know how to embed tweets so I copy and pasted it:

Quote:

"The Royals Michael Massey hit 4 HR last season. His xHR at home was 3 HR. In Cincinnati, the xHR total was 15 HR.

I can't imagine the hype behind and sub-200 PA player with 15 HR. Instead, Massey has an NFBC ADP after 400."
NFBC just means National Fantasy Baseball Championship. The high stakes ($1,750 buy in) fantasy baseball leagues that draft live in Vegas and New York just like a real actual draft, and the overall winner gets $200k. So cats playing in those leagues are a bit more dialed in than your average clown playing in a mixed 3 OF league for a $10 buy-in with his old college buddies.

xHR is simply the amount of homers to be expected from a given sample size given nothing other than launch angle and exit velocity. That is saying that Massey, had he been a Red, would have had 15 homers last year in under 200 at bats, strictly judging by how well he hit the ball. A full season is just under 600 at bats, so Massey was on a full season pace for 40+ homers last year. As a second baseman.

This is not a Franmil Reyes type power hitter that has no business playing the field, either. Massey has a glove and he also can run too (50 speed per fangraphs, which is above average).
